Character forms the foundation of effective leadership, shaping how leaders interact with their teams and navigate challenges. The LifeThrive Leadership Program emphasizes the importance of developing a “growth mindset” and mastering “self-regulation” to foster a results-oriented culture. These components are crucial in building a “Will Do” attitude that drives success and innovation within an organization. We discus this in more detail in this week's blog. Using Heart As Your Leadership Guide Blanchard® company president Scott Blanchard believes that the human heart is the perfect visual image to use in remembering some important aspects of good leadership. As Blanchard explains, “It’s a rich metaphor—and one that we have adopted as a part of our company’s tagline, The Heart of Human Achievement®. “The beating heart of every company is made up of the combined beating hearts of all the people within that company. People’s heads and hands—their thinking and skills—are important, but what really differentiates a highly motivated and purposeful organization are people’s hearts. It’s the team with heart that wins. Heart is at the center of human achievement, individually and collectively.” On Wednesday, October 18th, Scott Blanchard will be conducting a public webinar on Taking a Heart-Centered Approach to Leadership: Research, Strategies, and Day-to-Day Best Practices. He will share research, strategies, and day-to-day best practices that our clients can use to dramatically increase the levels of heart—energy and enthusiasm—in their organization. Without appropriate context, leadership efforts can lose relevance and effectiveness. When working "on" the business, leaders need a strategic and visionary mindset, focusing on setting goals, making high-level decisions, and driving long-term growth. This requires skills like strategic thinking, innovation, and the ability to see the bigger picture. On the other hand, when working "in" the business, leaders must possess operational skills, effective communication, and the ability to manage day-to-day tasks and teams. HBRs latest cover. Now, I am an avid reader, but I disagree with this cover. Organizational culture is set up and maintained by the leadership, and ultimately displays how things work in that distinct culture. As such, this cover falls short. How about “Build a culture that attracts and retains employees” or “Build a culture that equally cares for employees and customers” or “Develop your leaders and a positive culture will follow”. Bottomline, trying to fix the culture will not get you there, is starts and ends with leadership! Develop and keep developing your leaders as they rise. Even CEOs need further development. That is one of your strongest ROIs!
