The stage was set to discuss #interoperability at #XPO24 - and this panel on industry collaboration in the US did not disappoint! 🤠 The North Texas Shared Airspace Implementation leverages #opensource tools and contributions from the InterUSS Platform. As noted in the panel, this implementation is not a test - it is an operational baseline that can be used across the US. ✅ The InterUSS open source #automatedtesting suite is a digital, transparent, standards-based baseline for service verification. By testing against it, individual companies, and then the Implementation’s ecosystem, are able to confirm that their software, and any updates, meet the criteria to share the airspace. 🧑💻 The Implementation includes several InterUSS contributors with oversight from an Advisory Council member and member-observer. The #Olympics of Global #ATM In the #contest for #global ATM #leadership, and leading by operational deployment, it's no contest. It's not even close. With its most recent declaration of #ADDITIONAL en-route #Data #Communications #CPDLC capability, the FAA's #NextGen star player, the data #communications program, clearly gets the #gold medal. "The FAA Data Comm Program is pleased to announce that Denver Air Route Traffic Control Center (ZDV) has declared CPDLC operational. Denver joins Kansas City, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Atlanta, Fort Worth, Miami, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Cleveland as the tenth U.S. domestic en route facility to declare CPDLC fully operational." As #Europe continues to struggle with the on-going failure of the "single european sky" - and its #flawed data communications program - the #FAA continues to deliver real operational benefits to airspace users, on time, and even below #budget for the initial rollout! Yes, the #European data comm program is mired in #EU #politics but isn't that what #politicians are paid to resolve? How long has it been now? A decade or more and what to show for the massive investment of taxpayers funds? Always tomorrow it seems. Declarations of #ATN / #ATS technical superiority means nothing to airline CEOs struggling with (lack of) flight #efficiency and (excessive) #fuel burn. The #NextGen program benefits statements must surely be a glaring example to Europe of the fact that "good enough" is just that - in technology terms. The FAA's choice of #technology for its data comm program has resulted in #timely and significant #operational #benefits for #airlines and other operators using #USA #airspace. Few airline CEOs care if the ATM efficiency is delivered by the data comm equivalent of my old VW, or the Rolls Royce of delivery mechanisms. As the FAA have so admirably shown, if it works SAFELY, it's good enough for government and airline work. Well done FAA.
