Celebrating National Public Health Week: A Preventive Medicine Perspective As we step into National Public Health Week, I am reminded of the incredible journey we are on as a community dedicated to health and well-being. As a preventive medicine physician, I am particularly excited to celebrate the strides we are making in understanding and promoting preventive health measures. Preventive medicine is at the heart of public health. It is about being proactive rather than reactive. It is about understanding the nuances of disease prevention, health promotion, and the broad impact of environmental factors on our health. This week, we celebrate the tireless efforts of public health professionals who dedicate their lives to preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private communities, and individuals. Here are a few thoughts I'd love to share with my network on this important week: Prevention is Power: Emphasizing preventive health measures can significantly reduce the burden of chronic diseases and mitigate future healthcare challenges. Let's continue to advocate for regular health screenings, vaccinations, healthy lifestyle choices, and other preventive measures that can save lives. Collaboration is Key: The interplay between various healthcare disciplines is crucial for effective preventive medicine. It requires a collaborative approach, integrating expertise from various health professionals to create a holistic and impactful public health strategy. Education and Empowerment: Informing and empowering individuals and communities to take charge of their health is fundamental. Let's use this week to spread awareness about the importance of preventive health and encourage people to actively participate in their health journey. *****Innovation and Research: Advancements in medical research and technology are pivotal in enhancing our preventive measures. Let's celebrate the innovations that have brought us forward and support continued research in preventive medicine. As we observe National Public Health Week, let's recommit to a future where preventive health is a priority for all, reducing the global burden of disease and improving quality of life. I encourage my peers, colleagues, and friends to join in this observance, sharing knowledge, experiences, and insights that can propel us toward a healthier tomorrow. #PublicHealthWeek #PreventiveMedicine #HealthForAll #CommunityHealth #ACPM #PublicHealth #UNC

Chief Mission Officer, PAN Foundation | A nonprofit leader committed to making health care more affordable and accessible for all.
The PAN Foundation is celebrating 20 years of championing healthcare access, affordability, and equity for all—and I could not be prouder. For two decades, we have worked alongside an exceptional network of patient advocates, healthcare professionals, and generous donors to make healthcare more accessible. Some important accomplishments in that time: - Provided $4 billion dollars in life-changing financial assistance through more than 70 disease funds, helping 1.1 million patients across all 50 states and U.S. territories access their critical medical treatment and get transportation support - Achieved major policy victories that expanded access to care for millions of people on Medicare, including pioneering the conversation around “smoothing” out-of-pocket Medicare Part D costs, which earned widespread, bipartisan support and was passed into law - Used our voice and our relationships with the national patient advocacy community to advocate against harmful barriers to healthcare access, such as calling for the prohibition of co-pay accumulator programs and being the first charitable foundation to denounce alternative funding programs Our work is not done, however—not until everyone has access to affordable, equitable healthcare. We will continue our advocacy and education efforts, with the aim of helping millions more patients each year. To learn more about the impact we’ve had on patients, healthcare professionals, and others in our community, read their stories at: https://lnkd.in/gzP54APU

Thanks to Lou Ellen Horwitz for writing the recent article in JUCM: Journal of Urgent Care Medicine, entitled "Please Show Me That I'm Wrong". She eloquently points out the hard work done by the Urgent Care Association with advocacy on issues that affect urgent care clinicians, patients, and the industry at large. One of the hardest things is to get healthcare professionals engaged. Even harder than that is getting them to open their wallets and contribute to the cause. I encourage anyone reading this in the urgent care space to do two things. 1-Read this article. https://lnkd.in/ex_ZFGPE 2-Make a donation https://lnkd.in/eAyJMSc9 If we want things to get done, everyone has to show up and be involved.

Knowledge is power! 🏋🏾♀️ Spent the last two days at the Purchaser Business Group on Health (PBGH) retreat and learned about the Patient Rights Advocate Hospital Price Finder tool, which "aggregated publicly available price transparency data from 6,000 U.S. hospitals to empower all Americans with actual, upfront hospital prices". Already shared with some Covered California team members and brainstorming how to leverage this data transparency to benefit our enrollees! https://lnkd.in/giykekx4
