👉 Epilepsy Research Institute serves as the central hub for the epilepsy research community. Its mission is to radically advance research into epilepsy for the 1 in 100 people living with the condition. A priority of the Institute is to convene, connect and capacity build the epilepsy research ecosystem. One way it does this is through The Hub – their online portal for researchers working in epilepsy and associated conditions. 🌐 On The Hub, you can find: 💡 Discussion forums on the Institute’s key research themes 💡 Opportunities for funding 💡 Events, workshops, and conferences 💡 Job alerts and opportunities 💡 Epilepsy statistics and reports 💡 Patient and public involvement and engagement If you’re a researcher working in epilepsy and associated conditions, the Institute wants to hear from you. Earlier this week the members of the recently formed National Parkinson’s Alliance met at WEHI. Amongst items on the agenda was a discussion on developing a National Action Plan for #Parkinson’s in Australia to ensure advocacy, support and research funding needs are met. The National Parkinson’s Alliance was formed to bring together research institutes (Menzies Institute for Medical Research, NeuRA (Neuroscience Research Australia), QUT (Queensland University of Technology), University of Tasmania and WEHI) with advocacy and support organisations (Fight Parkinson's’s, Parkinson's NSW, Parkinson’s Tasmania, Shake It Up Australia Foundation for Parkinson's Research and Wings 4 Parkinson’s) with key stakeholders having lived experience of the disease. The Alliance’s collaborative work will focus on earlier detection and diagnosis of Parkinson’s, improving access to healthcare, resources, support and treatments, as well as advancing research to better understand causes, mechanisms, treatments and prevention of Parkinson’s. Following the Alliance’s advocacy and their Australian Summit to End Parkinson’s in Canberra in March, the Government provided $800,000 in the budget for the Alliance to create the first National Action Plan for Parkinson’s in Australia. 📸 Members of the National Parkinson’s Alliance at WEHI. #ParkinsonsDisease #ParkinsonsResearch #PD #Parkinsons

Did you know that 1 in 100 people in the UK have epilepsy? And that these people have a three times higher chance of death than the general population? Epilepsy research is critically underfunded, proportional to the number of people who live with epilepsy (for example, there is over 600% more funding into dementia than epilepsy vs. 40% greater number of patients with dementia). This survey will help to start addressing inequalities in research, which is an essential first step to positively changing lives. Epilepsy is a predominately invisible condition. Someone you know or their children or their loved ones are likely to live with epilepsy. 70% of these people could live a seizure free life with the right treatment - research will help to achieve this. Please share for reach or to anyone you know who might be interested.
This #PurpleDay we are proud to launch a survey to assess the current capacity in #epilepsy research. To coincide with the launch, today’s inaugural Epilepsy Research Institute Insights webinar will explore how we can build a thriving research ecosystem: https://lnkd.in/g2Qq5rzH
