"Tensions rise in Hillcrest jumping castle case as expert witness on inflatables cross-examined" With following the Court's varying experts' accounts and opinions regarding the tragic jumping castle incident in Tasmania , I can't see why the Manufacturers and Legislators don't stipulate that the event equipment providers initially pump at least 1000 litres of water into the inflatable unit prior to air filling .Water as ballast is very easily transferable to and from 1 or more IBCs or just water the grass after the event. The required depth or height of the water in the base is surprisingly minimal, easily calculated and obviously can be varied to the size inflatable that requires stabilising. For example , say a 4 metre diameter unit needs 1 tonne (1000 lts) to safely hold it down in an extreme wind gust event. pi 2² x depth = 1 cubic metre (1000 litres) depth = 1/3.14 x4 depth = .079618 m or depth = .079618 x1000 =79.6 mm So basically only around 80 mm of water would be required for an effective "1 Tonne Anchor " to supplement the traditional hold down peg system . That should give a whole number of parents peace of mind .
