Importance of Speaking Up: A Message to Secretaries/Executive Assistants Have you ever found yourself in a meeting, not as a minute-taker but as a participant, and decided not to speak up because you felt you were "just a secretary"? It’s a common scenario, but it’s time to shift this mindset. Dear fellow Secretaries, Executive Assistants, Office Administrators, and Personal Assistants —whatever your title — it's crucial to learn to speak up. Why are you in the meeting if you’re not contributing? Your insights and perspectives are valuable, and you might just provide the solution to the issue being discussed. Don’t underestimate your current position or yourself; this is just the beginning. More opportunities are yet to come. Who knows, in a few years, you might just be the CEO of a certain company😃 [if you are too ambitious...I mean with God everything is possible]. By speaking up, you pave the way for greater responsibilities and recognition in the future. Embrace your role and let your voice be heard. #HappyNewMonth #NewBeginnings #NewSeason #DontUndermineYourself

What's your calling? What's your vocation? I always have this question on my mind whenever I am in a place where there is no noise, when I am all by myself. I have always admired this client of mine for 3 years. I have met her twice in London, where I can always see in her eyes that she has found her passion, purpose in life, her mission in life, which is to bring the best quality care for children. I once had a chance to question her: How did she, or when did she, start having that burning passion to follow her aspiration to help babies develop best? Why is she in the early childhood field? I threw her the question while we were in a café bar having her breakfast, and she simply said, 'You just know it, you just follow it,' and she feels what she does is not work, she's enjoying it. I've been in many industries; I'm in IT and HR, and the similarities I see are that I am always supporting them when it comes to organizing, scheduling, and I go beyond my job description because I want to help them succeed. I like the feeling of giving them the support they need to hit and finish the deadlines, to be more creative, and to generate sales because this is the company I worked for, and this company helps me grow and trusts my capabilities. And that beat me into thinking, maybe my calling, my vocation, is to be in executive roles where I support CEOs, business owners to succeed with my technical skills and abilities. Thinking about it now, I just have a smile on my face because I realized that is currently what I'm doing at this moment, I wouldn't have known it if she hadn't said it. #AssistantExecutive #ExecutiveAssistantLife #AssistantToTheCEO #ExecutiveSupport #AssistantLeadership #AssistantManager #ExecutiveOffice #AssistantDirector #ExecutiveAdmin #AssistantManagement

Something many people in my network don’t know: In addition to my 15 years of experience in various people development roles, I have 13 years’ experience as an Executive Assistant (with some overlap between the two). I know firsthand the indescribable value EAs bring to the executives, teams and organizations they support. Being a successful Executive Assistant requires a high degree of empathy, initiative, intuition, adaptability, professionalism, patience and gravitas, along with a host of organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Often, the work of these professionals, when done seamlessly, happens in the background. Much of their effort is never seen by the people around them. And due to the often solitary nature of the role, working as an EA can be a very lonely experience. In short: Being an Executive Assistant (or any Administrative Professional) ain’t as easy as it looks! If you’re an Administrative Professional, I salute you. And if you’re fortunate enough to be supported by one, I hope you express your gratitude to them for all they do - on this Administrative Professionals’ Day and every day. #administrativeprofessionalsday #executiveassistant #administrativeprofessional

Executive assistants are the unsung heroes of the business world. They are the backbone of their organizations, providing critical support to top executives and enabling them to focus on high-level tasks. Without their hard work and dedication, many executives would struggle to stay organized and focused on their priorities. I saw this picture of an Executive Assistant with multiple arms and I thought it would be fun to share with you all. As I approach almost two decades as an Executive Assistant - a role I deeply value for its dynamism and the unique opportunities it has provided - I want to share a reflection that may resonate with many in similar positions. Throughout my career, I've often been labeled as "the assistant of," suggesting I'm merely a subsidiary to someone else. There's a tendency for some to view me as standing in the shadow of those I support, where my achievements are seen not as my own but as extensions of another's success. The label "Executive Assistant," while a part of who I am, sometimes overshadows the individual contributions and the professional identity I've worked hard to build. I view the relationship between an EA and an executive as inherently collaborative. I don't exist merely because of the person I support; rather, we both contribute crucially, each of us a vital cog in a larger mechanism. Over the past decade, I've been fortunate to collaborate with Konstantinos Apostolatos who recognized and celebrated my capabilities and successes. I find it essential, particularly in roles often seen as 'merely' supportive, to assert and celebrate our own professional accomplishments and individuality. Here’s to all the EAs who excel and push boundaries, ensuring their unique contributions are recognized. Let's continue supporting each other's distinct identities and achievements! #ExecutiveAssistant #CareerReflection Photo by Prateek Katyal on Unsplash
