The Golden Gate Bridge, an engineering feat of its time that captivated a nation, required over 1.2 million steel rivets to stand tall, but only one made of gold to be completed. Engineers and laborers had to navigate the treacherous waters of San Francisco Bay, contending with its fierce ocean currents and a deceptive layer of mud and silt beneath, to erect massive concrete anchors, each weighing a staggering 60,000 tons. The bridge's spine, formed by its main cables, weaves together 27,000 individual wires, extending over 80,000 miles—a distance that could circle the Earth more than three times. The selection of its "International Orange" color embedded the bridge both in the physical —ensuring its visibility in foggy conditions 🌁— and in the cultural identity of San Francisco. On April 27, 1937, this final rivet, made of gold valued at $450 in 1937—roughly $8,000 in today's dollars—intended as a testament to human achievement, instead offered a lesson in the unpredictable nature of materials and ambitions. The drama unfolded before an audience of eager onlookers and the Press as Edwin "Iron Horse" Stanley, an experienced riveter, faced the unexpected challenge of a gold rivet that could not withstand the pressure of the installation. As described vividly by a witness, despite Stanley's efforts and even after applying heat with a torch to make the gold malleable, the rivet shattered, its fragments scattering in the air like tiny sparks of failure, much to the astonishment of onlookers. The scene, reported by the San Francisco Examiner, became a symbolic struggle—from what was supposed to be a flawless ceremonial act to a reminder of the complexities involved in engineering marvels. 🚧 #EDANBROOK #FlashbackFriday - P1178 Proposed Footbridge 🚧 We’re excited to showcase our work on the P1178 Proposed Footbridge in Australia. Our team used Tekla software for precise modeling and detailing of this walkway structure. Here’s what we did: 🔹 #3DModeling: Created a detailed 3D model of the footbridge, including all structural elements. 🔹 #ConnectionDetails: Designed critical connections to ensure stability and durability. 🔹 #AssemblyDrawings: Provided clear instructions for accurate and efficient assembly. 🔹 #PartDrawings: Detailed each component with exact dimensions for fabrication. 🔹 #ErectionDrawing: Outlined the layout for smooth on-site assembly. Our use of Tekla software ensured accurate design and documentation, streamlining the construction process. Kudos to our team for their outstanding work! 👏🌟 #Edanbrook #Engineering #StructuralDesign #Tekla #Construction #TeamWork

As a (geeky) kid of the 90s, my pop culture references often fly over people's heads. However, to my (dorky) delight, our outstanding Bowman Consulting team instantly recognized the visual design reference of this slide from my "Civil 3D Corridor Chronicles: A Dynamic Guide to Offset and Connected Alignments" training session today. #Civil3D #Corridor #civilengineering #AutodeskExpertElite

Today's feat of 'Structural Engineering'... we didn't bother with calculations or drawings while constructing this temporary structure... With thunderstorms forecast for race day, let's hope it stays up! 🤞🏻😂 #Silverstone #TemporaryStructures #StructuralEngineering 🏎🏁

What can we learn without experience... An idea on the paper or not is exactly that, an idea. An experience is exactly that, a completed set of actions that result in a learning experience that can be shared and taught. The idea is used as a guide to gain experience. Whether it is an idea for new technology, a new technique, a new method, etc. Without an idea, not much new progress can be created. Without Experience not much progress can be completed without the possibility of repeating previous mistakes
