Very smart analysis Jacob Turner I should send you a few candidates to help them better evaluate their different job offers as well. I've seen too many times candidates go for the bigger base salary, not really looking at much else...even though I've been told by them "I am looking at the whole offer" before accepting the higher base salary. Factors often forgotten are financial stability of the company beyond the high level info, average tenure of employees working there, work/life balance. We work with a great company that doesn't offer huge salaries, but is backed by a $2 Billion FS company across their 350 employees average tenure is 7.2 years!!! They also offer a pension, which is unheard of these days..... Similarly as the Hurley offer situation, face value of their offers are not as flashy but 350 employees who are closing in on a decade of tenure on average are a true testament to their workplace happiness.

Dan Hurley turned down $70,000,000 from the Los Angeles Lakers. Yet, between leverage, taxes, and cost of living...it is a win, win, win. You see Hurley is arguably the most sought-after basketball coach in the country. A dynamic leader that has led UConn to back-to-back national championships. - After UConn's 2023 title, the school rewarded Hurley with a $32,100,000 extension. Well, one season (and one title) later the Lakers offered Hurley a staggering $70,000,000 contract to lead the most iconic franchise in the NBA. Hurley said no but not before creating a win, win, win for himself. - You see the Lakers offer provided Hurley leverage with UConn who reportedly offered him a $50,000,000 extension to stay. Here is where the numbers get even closer. California state tax ranges up to 13.3%. Connecticut state tax caps out at 6.99%. LA's cost of living is estimated to be nearly 20% higher (probably more) than Storrs, Connecticut. Between taxes and cost of living that $20,000,000 gap narrows fast. - So to recap Hurley went from a $32,100,000 contract to a $50,000,000 contract all at the place he wanted to be all along. That my friends is a win, win, win for Dan Hurley.
