We are proud to announce that RS has been ranked 82nd in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer Awards 2024, from over 8,000 large employers. The rankings celebrate England’s outstanding apprenticeship employers, recognising their commitment to creating new apprenticeships, the diversity of their apprentices, and the number of apprentices who successfully achieve their apprenticeships. First compiled in 2020, the prestigious annual employer rankings have been developed by the Department of Education, in partnership with High Fliers Research, who independently assess and rank the nation’s top apprenticeship employers. Tim Beasley, our Early Careers Manager, told us: “Over the last 6 and a half years I have seen apprenticeships prove to be extremely successful here at RS and I am keen to build further upon this success.“ Did you know that there is more to Early Careers than just UK apprenticeships? For instance, we also have internships in Mexico, USA, APAC and apprenticeships all across EMEA. Want to learn more about our early careers and entry level opportunities? 🔍 Understanding the Difference: 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘷𝘴. 𝘚𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘈𝘱𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘈𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘢 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 🔍 Navigating the Australian Apprenticeship system can be complex, but understanding the roles of different providers can make a significant difference in the enhanced services you can access. Let's break down differences between Generalist and Specialist Apprenticeship Connect Providers: 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲: Offer comprehensive support services to ALL apprentices and employers, regardless of industry or the apprentice's demographic. 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: Assist all employer and apprentice with the sign-up process, provide advice on training contracts obligations, help find the right RTO, claim administration, and offer ongoing support throughout the apprenticeship or traineeship journey. 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲: Focus on specific groups or industries, such as women in male-dominated trades, First Nations Australian Apprentices, or apprentices in clean energy occupations. 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: In addition to general services, they provide tailored support to address the unique challenges and needs of their specific specialist group. Specialist providers can only sign up and manage the cohort they have been contracted for, and not able to sign up apprentices or trainees that don't fall within their specialist cohort. Both types of providers are essential in ensuring apprentices and employers receive the necessary support to succeed in their training and career development. By understanding these differences, you can choose the Provider that best supports the needs of the apprentice. Missed Opportunities: The Importance of Passing Down Apprenticeship Opportunities Yesterday, I attended the Building Growth Skills Network for Norfolk and Suffolk Provider group meeting, where we had an insightful discussion about the challenges facing construction apprenticeships. The supply side looks promising—providers mentioned having an abundance of eager young talent ready to step into the industry. However, the real challenge now lies on the demand side. We desperately need more employers to engage in formal recruitment practices. Simply put, we need them to advertise their vacancies! No more hidden job markets or hiring based on who you know. Just post the roles, and we can help you find the best candidate. Our CITB Advisors are here to support you—check out the local support available on the CITB website. https://lnkd.in/eYqbCuM2 During the meeting, an interesting point was raised: once apprentices complete their training and leave, we often never hear from them again. Yet, many of these individuals go on to become business owners themselves. This led me to reflect on a missed opportunity within the sector. As these young people exit their apprenticeships, we should be doing more to instill the responsibility they have to "pay it forward" by taking on apprentices themselves if they’re ever in a position to do so. This cultural shift won't yield immediate results, but by planting these seeds now, we create a future where more young people will have the same opportunities 10 to 15 years down the line. Let's not miss this chance to build a stronger, more sustainable future for construction. #BuildingGrowth #Apprenticeships #Construction #Careers #FE #CITB #PayItForward
