Many states have adopted Alyssa's Law, including Florida, New York, and Texas, and though Virginia's version of the law, HB 1046, has been tabled, people are still advocating for safer schools. Currently, Alyssa's Law has not been proposed in the state of Maryland. Rather than wait for Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. to pass this important legislation, we ask, "Why wait?" The symbolism of their new unity was encapsulated in a novel gesture—squeezing stress balls on their hands, an act that demonstrated not just the burden they were willing to share but also the combined strength they could wield together. This alliance was strategic, aimed at consolidating resources, information, and territory to mount a more formidable defense against law enforcement's encroachments. I am currently delivering the Module on National Policy Framework for Tackling Serious Youth Violence and Gangs, which also includes Child Criminal Exploitation as part of our Level 3 Qualification. So I don't completely agree with the idea that there aren't any national or local strategies for tackling child criminal exploitation, the question for me would be does child criminal exploitation need its own strategy? is serious youth violence too much of a wide or blanket term? For me, I think the issue is more based on the gap in knowledge in how practitioners understand, engage with, and even challenge the current strategies. I know many of the practitioners I have taught are unclear about the policies and strategies that exist, and how the organisations and the roles they hold fit within the national and local strategy. It is this disconnect that is skewing our view of national and local strategies? We don't have enough practitioners who understand the agenda, and many practitioners lack the time, space and energy to engage with the right level of training. It should be the responsibility of the organisation or agency you work for to ensure that their staff teams are sufficiently trained, ensuring they have a good understanding of the organisation and the National and Local strategies they are working towards. In case you missed it, the BC Ministry of Attorney General and CLBC have jointly announced a long-planned initiative that brings even more justice information within ready reach of library clients. All of CLBC's public access computers now feature FREE access to the documents that you would normally find (and pay for) on Court Services Online. We have been working on this for a while, and are pleased to share the Minister of Attorney General's tweet. https://lnkd.in/gQvRhDVS Visit one of our branches to get free access to CSO E-search and to view and download full copies of court documents filed in civil proceedings. This means full PDFs of actual documents filed at court, subject of course to the usual restrictions and protections assured by the Court Records Access policies, and CSO's own constraints. This kind of resource is incredibly useful, and not just to lawyers, but to self-represented litigants, the general public, students, etc. Basically it's a boon to anyone interested in seeing real living examples of completed court forms, who want to learn by example and read how claims are drafted, how court files work, how specific cases were documented, etc. The range of use cases are extremely vast for this kind of resource.
