How can you identify from the outside if an organisation is serious about D&A?
Many organisations have paid lip service to their intentions of "being data-driven" or "getting more value from their data"
And when push comes to shove, we've seen many make cuts to teams and budgets, etc, revealing their true colours
It's hard from the outside to see the players who are genuine versus the bluffers
Because it's easy to say but it's hard to do
If I was on the outside of an organisation and trying to weigh up how serious they are
I'd see if they have dedicated recruiters internally for Data & Analytics roles
Granted, this will only likely apply to larger organisations and also doesn't necessarily guarantee anything
But, if a business has an internal talent team where they have dedicated resources to D&A hiring
That usually means there's going to be enough hiring to warrant that set-up
Which means, there's a serious amount of investment budgeted to D&A skills/work, etc
It's an indication, nothing more...
But, I've lost count of the times that people have joined an organisation only to be told there isn't any budget for hiring more resources
Of course, many organisations rely on external suppliers (like us) to take care of their D&A hiring needs
But, if you're looking at some of the bigger organisations, their internal talent team set-up can give some clues
It also means they're taking it seriously - generalism doesn't work
