For a long time, the St. Petersburg TV tower was the tallest and lightest engineering structure in Europe: 316 m 27 cm high and 1,263 tons in weight, which is 4 meters higher and 7 times lighter than the Eiffel Tower. Then the height changed several times depending on which antenna was on top. The St. Petersburg TV tower is the most elegant of the towers. Several transmission towers in Russia and abroad were built according to its patterns. Its design - simple, but at the same time delicate, elegant - was developed by a whole group of specialists, whose chief architect, as they said, "heard the music of the city, and never sang out of tune." In St. Petersburg, they are very jealous of their skyline and it is difficult to successfully "fit" a very tall structure into the established aristocratic historical center. The tower's design is simple and logical: the foundation is seven regular hexagonal pyramids. The tower is held together by nine rigid platforms. In the middle is a shaft for high-speed elevators. At a height of 200 meters there is a three-story structure with transparent walls - a "glass". Inside there is equipment, at the top there is an observation deck. Previously, until the mid-90s, excursions were taken there. Now we enjoy its new evening lighting, stylish, in the colors of the Russian flag. Thank you for your demonstration, Ravil! Very elegant and didactic :) It is interesting to observe how the cable system brings stability to the whole structure. The removal of those cables in the end of the video reveals how crucial they are for the building.
