Florida is on track to be #1 in the nation for workforce education by 2030. My top 5 takeaways from Adrienne Johnston's recent interview with Florida SBDC Network discussing how CareerSource Florida is helping reach this goal. 1. The CareerSource network is committed to expanding the labor force by including people who have significant barriers to employment. Doing this by equipping them with the resources and tools to succeed in a tight labor market. 2. Small businesses can get direct support, guidance, and resources, for the hiring, training, and retaining process of their employees all in one place. 3. There are over 100 CareerSource locations spread across every region of the state. EVERY business and EVERY person has access. Rural, urban, skilled, unskilled, there is a one-stop center nearby where people can get resources. 4. Apprenticeships are expanding outside of traditional "apprenticeship" industries. Working with CareerSource, the Healthcare, IT, and Data Analytics industries have all stood up recognized apprenticeship programs over the past year. This provides more opportunities for more Floridians. 5. Workforce system funding declines as the unemployment level decreases. This reality forces efficiencies across the entire system. The Healey-Driscoll Administration's FY25 budget proposal builds upon existing programs to expand the state’s support for successful workforce development initiatives focused on connecting Massachusetts residents with well-paying jobs. Here's what is included in House 2. ➡ $15.7 million for Summer Jobs Program for At-Risk Youth (Youthworks) to subsidize wages and facilitate career development of at-risk youth between the ages of 14 and 25 ➡ $10.4 million for Career Technical Institutes (CTIs), which aim to close skills training gaps by expanding access to vocational education, across EOL and Education ➡ $10 million for MassHire Career Centers to provide regional workforce training and employee placement services across 29 locations ➡ $3.8 million for the Registered Apprenticeship Program to fund approximately 1,000 placements for registered apprentices in FY25    Our workforce drives economic competitiveness, and we know that talent development strategies unlock opportunities for meaningful careers and economic stability for Massachusetts families.  H2 Readout: https://lnkd.in/eK9ww6yn

🚌 Seminar 5 Update: Off to Minneapolis! 🚌 Before hopping on the bus to the Minneapolis area, we had an insightful session with Jerry South, Assistant Director of Career Coaching for the NDSU Career and Advising Center. Jerry discussed how to leverage the RLND experience and recognize the value of the skills we are learning. By articulating what we have learned, we can be better prepared to showcase the impact of RLND. We are excited for the journey ahead and the opportunities to come!

Is there anything better than spending the day with counselors? This week our team was in Denver with school counselor corps grantees talking ICAP, blurring counseling domains- social emotional, academic and career & exploring work based learning and other interventions Some of the things we heard: -How do we get to career advising when we have students not getting basic needs met? -How do our counselors connect better with CTE teams to get exposed to trends in the labor market? -How do we address barriers to accessing work based learning? -How do we know we’re reaching students that need in school career development the most? -How do we start career interventions earlier so that students see themselves in top jobs? And what are they already doing? -Bringing employers in as a partner in planning WBL -Connecting student interests with their academic and career goals -Bringing parents and families into the conversation

"It’s important for public agencies, companies, community colleges, and workforce development stakeholders to come together to envision skills training and registered apprenticeship policies that will not only maximize infrastructure investments and expand benefits, but also create new pathways to good jobs for underrepresented groups including, black and brown workers, women, young people, veterans and re-entry citizens" - Victoria Johnson National Skills Coalition and Business Leaders United convened with more than 60 stakeholders who play a key role in advancing state and federal clean energy skills training policy. Aligned to our People Powered Infrastructure campaign, NSC and BLU plans to use the momentum from this event to build support for federal and state investments in pre-apprenticeships and industry sector partnerships.
