"Of the 31 minerals that Canada deems critical, 16 of those are located or produced in B.C., positioning the province as a key player in advancing Canada’s goal of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the year 2050. ‘This is a generational opportunity which must be seized and could position B.C. as a leading global supplier of responsibly- produced critical minerals. We want to move forward with the Governments of Canada and British Columbia, First Nations, local governments and labour to unlock critical mineral developments for the benefit of all British Columbians', said Michael Goehring, president and CEO of the MABC." https://lnkd.in/gj76ZyMN CIM Magazine #mining #criticalminerals #competitiveness #economy

An article shared last week outlines how Canada aims to reduce the development timeline for critical mineral mines from 12-15 years to approximately 5 years. This effort, focusing in part on minerals essential for manufacturing electric vehicles, highlights the government's commitment to electrifying the transportation sector, making Canada an attractive industry partner on the global stage. This effort includes substantial investments in infrastructure and incentives for mining and mineral processing projects, enhancing Canada's ability to offer energy resources at affordable prices and strengthening its position in the lithium and broader critical mineral markets. Massive boost for critical minerals in #NSW ✅✅ Today's announcement from the Government of New South Wales (NSW Government) is significant. It commits $250 million in royalty deferrals to boost their critical minerals industry, with priority metals identified in the revised strategy including rare earths, silver, scandium, copper & cobalt. AMEC Chief Executive Warren Pearce commended the new strategy, “Today's announcement identifies the absolute priority to assist exploration and mining companies in the early stages of developing critical minerals projects." “It’s difficult to secure investment and receive appropriate approvals for new projects at the best of times. But doing so in emerging sectors, like critical minerals, is an added challenge to overcome." AMEC is also encouraged by the decision to review the approvals and planning process. These processes are often unnecessarily drawn out, costly, and without certainty. With NSW Minister for Natural Resources Courtney Houssos, saying “NSW critical minerals projects typically have long lead times for development, and higher capital investment. The new royalty deferral scheme will assist mine proponents to attract investment and move faster to production." Good op ed piece by Heather Exner-Pirot around critical minerals. Government of Canada needs to truly commit to the critical infrastructure plan if they see Canada being a major player in critical minerals. We have a very real opportunity to be a key producer globally but we need to take words to action. #criticalminerals #infrastructure #miningindustry #miningnews #mininginvestment #indigenomics #indigenousbusiness #exploration https://lnkd.in/gVy7a7-i

🔔 Urgent Update on Critical Mineral Supply Gaps 🚨 Dominic Barton, Chairman of Rio Tinto, voiced pressing concerns at the Ecosperity conference in Singapore about the future of crucial minerals needed for clean technology: 🔹 Supply Shortages: Barton described the gap in essential minerals like copper as "humungous." "I am actually very worried about whether we will be able to close [the gap]," he emphasised. 🔹 Key to Decarbonisation: The demand for minerals like copper, lithium, and cobalt is skyrocketing as they are vital for electric vehicles, solar plants, and wind farms. 🔹 Comparative Demand: Electric vehicles require six times more minerals than traditional combustion engines, highlighting the shift towards more resource-intensive clean technologies. 🔹 Investment Challenges: The mining industry has significantly reduced investments since 2015, resulting in a substantial capital deficit for new mine development. 🔹 Building Trust: After setbacks like the destruction of sacred Aboriginal sites in 2020, Barton stressed the need for improved public relations to restore trust and support for the mining sector. 🌍 The mining industry is at a pivotal junction in supporting the global shift to sustainable energy. It's crucial for them to be seen as part of the solution, not the problem. 💬 How can the mining industry better position itself in the era of sustainability? #MiningIndustry #SustainableMining #Decarbonization #RioTinto #RenewableEnergy #ElectricVehicles #CorporateResponsibility #CleanTech #EV #Batteries #CriticalRawMaterials #EnergyTranisition #Mining
