A recruiter's pitch without understanding your career goals is a red flag. However, if a recruiter shows genuine interest in your profile and wants to have a conversation, be receptive. Building a relationship with a good recruiter can help you stay informed about your job market and potentially lead to exciting career opportunities. In today's rapidly changing world, it's always a benefit to stay informed. #recruiting #jobmarket #careeropportunities
Just a little advice to the recruiter out there. If you are going to message someone stating that you "came across your profile and I am impressed with your experience and think you would be a great fit...." you might actually want to read the individuals profile. Today was a perfect example. The position they were recruiting for was a Civil Estimator. No where in my profile does in mention Civil. If you looked close enough, you would see I have 44+ years in the Electrical Field. LOL

Pipeline Setting out and excavation - When Civil Engeeineer and Surveying merge with precision, the output on the ground is always pleasant. Setting out data, and a detailed topographic map helps both surveyors and engineers have a better grasp on how to conduct such projects. Sometimes ground truthing can cause some variation on the placing of points but adjustments are a close friend of surveyors on the field.

A friend of mine works for a big civil contractor in a fast-growing metro area in the US. We were catching up the other day and he told me that their total estimated work for 2023 was just over $1 billion. Their estimating department isn’t huge, it’s 5 or 6 estimators. The amount of work that those folks bid is unreal and it’s because they’re highly efficient. Most of them do 1-2 complete site work package bids every week. They can do this because their processes are set up so that it’s exactly the same each time. Takeoff items are all standardized and in a database. Those takeoff items match the pay items in the estimating software and the amount of manual entry is negligible. They make great use of online planrooms and have their subcontractors and suppliers working off of standard pricing packages so that entering quotes is quick and efficient. Their ability to bid more than $1 billion worth of work in a year with 5-6 estimators is only possible because they put a lot of effort and forethought into their system and setup and are continually tweaking it to make it better. Despite the effort that they have put in to reach such a high level of efficiency, they all work 55-60 hours every week and burnout is a constant problem…but that’s a subject for another post.

Random Thought II 7. A Geotechnical Engineer: he/she measures the depth you can go to get water and the strength of the soil. He/she also looks at the acidity and alkalinity of the water, etc, etc. He/she is also involved in understanding the nature of the soil. He/she analyzes the behaviour of the soil, monitors the stability of the slope. In fact, when you speak of safety in construction call on the Geotechnical Engineers and the Structural Engineers. 8. A Quantity Surveyor: I call any QS a real estate Accountant. Quantity Surveyors are the ones that usually have problems with contractors and vendors. Because they deal with the calculation of materials needed for the construction. You need them on your side for tendering. 9. A Land Surveyor: You need a Land Surveyor at the conceptualization stage of your construction. They are the ones who will help you with all the land charts, coordinates of the land. They ensure to make you buy lands that are devoid of problems. They work closely with property lawyers too. 10. A contractor and Vendor: for materials supply. 11. A Realtor: a realtor usually waits for you to either finish construction or land acquisition before he comes in. I call them the "money-magnets". They call people to buy. They were the reason I joined the Sales Team(😁😁😁). 11. A Developer: This is the moneybag. Developers are the businessmen and women. They look at a viable location, think of the real estate offerings that will thrive in those locations. They do their feasible studies and market survey, including understanding customer personae and client behaviour towards the location. These are the people who assemble professionals and pay them to build business-friendly properties. What matters to them is that they're solving the problems of housing. The BOTTOMLINE( with reference to account balance sheet) is also key to them. So you see, you can't go wrong with real estate. There's room for everyone. Every aspect of the business is as useful as everything about the palm-tree. Moses Onyebuchi Okere.
