I was actively suicidal. The word “suicide” grabs everyones attention, but it is usually only at the point of this crisis that people take an interest in your mental wellbeing, maybe ask how you are a few times a week, and thats only if you are open about how you are really feeling. I lost one of my bestfriends to suicide on her 20th birthday back in 2017. I planned to take my own life in 2018 and 2019. I’ve attended counselling twice, CBT therapy twice and had the highest dosage of depression and anxiety medication I could take for five years. I opened a peer support / community interest company five years ago to have a safe, friendly and non judgemental environment for likeminded people to have a chat and have access to alternative therapies and signposting to professional help. I’m a huge advocate for mental health & wellbeing and the importance of speaking about it, looking for signs and workplaces to be more inclusive and understanding of the difficulties people who struggle with their mental health can face some days. Mind offer a free mental health course to help build conversations, notice signs and potentially save someones life. The link to this is below: https://lnkd.in/e8D5gh_u You never really know what someone is dealing with in their personal life, outwith their 9-5 or on a daily basis. The smallest how are you or even hello might spark a conversation that could lead to the support they might need. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalwellbeing #mentalhealthintheworkplace

Supporting a friend or loved one who is facing mental health challenges can make a world of difference in their recovery journey. Here are five ways you can provide meaningful support: Listen Without Judgment: Create a safe and non-judgmental space for your loved one to express their thoughts and feelings. Practice active listening, validate their experiences, and offer empathy and understanding without trying to "fix" their problems. Offer Practical Assistance: Help your loved one with day-to-day tasks that may feel overwhelming during difficult times. Offer to run errands, prepare meals, or accompany them to appointments. Your practical support can alleviate stress and show that you care. Educate Yourself: Take the time to learn about your loved one's mental health condition and treatment options. Understanding their experiences and challenges can help you offer more informed support and reduce stigma surrounding mental illness. Be Patient and Supportive: Recovery from mental health challenges is often a gradual process that requires patience and understanding. Be patient with your loved one's progress and setbacks, and offer ongoing support and encouragement along the way. Encourage Professional Help: Encourage your loved one to seek professional help if needed. Offer to help them research therapists or treatment options, and provide encouragement and support as they take steps towards getting the help they need. Remember, your support can make a significant difference in your loved one's mental health journey. By being there for them, listening with compassion, and offering practical assistance, you can help them feel valued, supported, and understood. Together, we can create a community of care and support for those facing mental health challenges. 💚🌟 #MentalHealthSupport #SupportingLovedOnes #RegenerativePsychology

As June comes to a close, let's remember that mental health awareness isn't just a monthly focus—it's a year-round commitment. Mental health challenges don't follow a calendar, and our support for those facing them, especially men, shouldn't either. Society often tells men to be stoic and self-reliant, making it hard for them to open up about their struggles. It's time to break this silence by normalizing conversations about mental health. Encourage men to seek help, share resources, and offer support. A strong community can make a world of difference. Here are some practical steps to continue promoting mental health awareness: Educate and Advocate: Spread knowledge and support mental health initiatives. Promote Resources: Share information about available help. Model Openness: Be open about your own mental health journey. Support Each Other: Offer a listening ear and kindness. Engage in Self-Care: Prioritize your own mental well-being. Let's carry the momentum of mental health awareness forward and create a culture where everyone feels empowered to seek help and express their emotions. Together, we can make a lasting impact. Mental health is a journey, not a destination. Let's walk this path together, every day of the year. #MentalHealthAwareness #EndTheStigma #MensMentalHealth

June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a crucial time to highlight the unique challenges men face in managing their mental health. Despite the prevalence of mental health issues, many men struggle in silence due to societal stigma and traditional notions of masculinity. Did you know: • Men die by suicide 3.5 times more often than women. • 1 in 10 men experience depression and anxiety but are less likely to seek help. • Only 36% of psychological therapy referrals are for men. It’s time to change these statistics by encouraging open conversations and providing support. If you or someone you know is struggling, here are some valuable resources: • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255) - Available 24/7 for free and confidential support. • Crisis Text Line: Text “HELLO” to 741741 - Free, 24/7 support via text. • Man Therapy: mantherapy.org - Offers resources and humor to help men tackle mental health issues. • Mental Health America: mhanational.org - Provides information, resources, and support. • HeadsUpGuys: headsupguys.org - A resource specifically for men battling depression. Let’s work together to break the stigma and support men’s mental health. Reach out, talk openly, and seek help when needed. Your mental health matters. #MensMentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #BreakTheStigma #SupportEachOther

Mental Health Awareness Week Monday 13 May 2024 – Sunday 19 May 2024 One of the reasons it is important to talk about mental health all year round is to break down societal and cultural stigmas that still exist. By being open and creating opportunities for honest conversations, we make sure it isn’t taboo and more people who may be struggling feel comfortable to reach out for help. The week aims to tackle stigma and help people understand and prioritise their and others' mental health. We know that… 1 in 4 people will have a mental health problem every year in the UK. 90% of UK employees feel unable to disclose a mental health problem to their employer. 75% of people with a diagnosable mental health problem receive no treatment at all. Having someone there to listen can help them work through what’s going on and feel better able to cope. You don’t have to be an expert to help someone open up when something’s up. The fact that you care is what matters. #letstalk #mentalhealthawareness
