Sending mountains of gratitude to Elder John Snow and his partner Trish for spending time with the Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB) last week 🏔 🌲 🦅 The Board’s 12-month education program on the Rights and Interests of Indigenous Peoples is in full swing and explores topics such as accounting’s role in the colonization of Canada; First Nation, Métis, Inuit, and Indigenous youth's views on Sustainability; and of course, UNDRIP - just to name a few! During the session, Elder Snow reminded us that we don’t live in a ‘Charlie Brown’ world where everything is black and white… we all have different perspectives that are valid and important to consider. He shared examples of how First Nation Traditional Ecological Knowledge positively benefitted infrastructure projects in western Canada, while protecting sacred sites and providing meaningful work for First Nation talent. And they reminded us why, as a Board, need to be as inclusive of a wide range of Indigenous perspectives as we go through the process of standard-setting. kinanâskomîtin Elder Snow and Trish for sharing your teachings with the Board, and for gifting us copies of your late father’s book “These Mountains Are Our Sacred Places”. We are so deeply grateful for your wisdom and support. https://lnkd.in/gH8Jqwk6. #CSSB #ISSB #Sustainability #StandardSetting #Indigenous #FirstNation #Wisdom

What an amazing session and only wish that I could have been a fly on the wall. Such an important way to signal the necessity of Indigenous perspectives as these standards are developed and implemented.
