The dock worker strike will undoubtedly impact supply chains, and it's only a matter of time that warehouse operations will feel the ripple effects. "Each day that this goes on, it creates a backlog of containers and ships," American Farm Bureau Federation economist Daniel Munch told @CBS MoneyWatch. "A 3-to-5-day strike will take two weeks to clear — if it goes into three-week territory, it will be early January before it gets cleared." With mounting delays, it’s more important than ever to maximize your current labor force in the warehouse. Warehouse Kommand can help you adapt. Our system calculates and calibrates labor productivity and costs across 30 touchpoints in the warehouse, providing the real-time data you need to redistribute labor effectively as operations evolve. Whether you're dealing with a reduced workforce or shifting workloads due to external factors, Warehouse Kommand offers the insights to ensure productivity and efficiency remain high—even during unpredictable times. As conditions change, now is the time to fine-tune your operations and get the most out of your team. Access Warehouse Kommand at www.embassydl.com and get your first model up and running in about an hour - for only $49.95/month! #SupplyChainCrisis #WarehouseEfficiency #LaborOptimization #DockWorkerStrike

POTENTIAL STRIKE BY EAST COAST DOCKWORKERS COULD LEAD TO SUPPLY CHAIN DISRUPTION. A potential strike by East Coast dockworkers could significantly disrupt the supply chain, especially for businesses relying on U.S. port operations along the Atlantic coast. Here's a breakdown of the potential impact: 1. Port Congestion and Delays: Major ports like New York/New Jersey, Baltimore, and Savannah could face disruptions, leading to delays in cargo handling. This can create a ripple effect, slowing down the movement of goods both domestically and globally. 2. Increased Shipping Costs: A strike might lead to rerouting of shipments to West Coast ports or other alternatives, which could increase transit times and fuel costs, ultimately pushing up shipping expenses. 3. Inventory Shortages: Businesses, particularly those in retail, manufacturing, and e-commerce, could experience stock shortages due to delays in receiving raw materials and finished products. 4. Impact on Seasonal Goods: With peak holiday season approaching, any delays could critically affect the availability of seasonal goods, potentially resulting in lost sales and consumer dissatisfaction. 5. Disruption in Global Supply Chains: Companies with global operations may need to adjust production schedules or find alternative suppliers and distribution channels to mitigate the strike’s effects. Overall, industries reliant on just-in-time inventory or those with tight margins could see serious operational challenges, emphasizing the need for proactive contingency planning. #mitigation #disruption #highfreight #contingencyplanning #supplychainlife #proactiveapproach #logistics #inventoryshortages #maersk #hapaglloyd #rerouting #opentowork #hiring #america #lostsales #increasedshippingcosts #rippleeffect #shipping #supplychainrisk #supplychainmanager #logisticsmanager #demandsupply #cargodelays #vesseldelays

Nail the basics. This is what I worked on with my Area Managers and Operations Managers. Especially with those who were early in their career or new in their role. Knowing the basic details was a non-negotiable. If you didn't know the basics how can you build, plan, and execute consistently and effectively? General: How many dock doors? how many SqFt. is the building? What is the mechanical capacity? What is the physical capacity? What are targets for Safety, Productivity, Cost, and Retention? Shift Specific: What is your rostered headcount? What is your attendance rate? What is your assumed throughput? What levers are you pulling if you are ahead/behind plan today? #operations #logistics #fulfillment #warehouse #ecommercefulfillment #3pl #ecommercelogistics #leadershipdevelopment

Muted Labor Day takeaways for trucking Spot and rejection rates were unresponsive to Labor Day in regard to limiting capacity. The immediate takeaway is simply that there is still plenty of truckload capacity available. There is more to it, however. The railroads have picked up some of the slack as intermodal container demand continues to rise out of Los Angeles. Inventory levels are rising as shippers pull goods into the country in front of holiday demand. Concerns about a potential strike at Eastern ports are also contributing to this on some level. Carriers who were out of position in the summer months are now in place in Southern California. As the holiday season approaches, intermodal shipping becomes less viable due to increased urgency, while anticipated interest rate cuts could release pent-up demand. Despite current spot rates suggesting stability, the market still faces uncertainty with ongoing carrier exits and the potential for volatility during the holiday season. FreightWaves SONAR
