Fanboy moment - a snap with Shashank Kumar , an exceptionally warm and humble soul, the co-founder of Razorpay, a shining glory of Tech Products from India. The reason? Razorpay is always my go-to example in the classroom. An example for the unshakeable "Razor"-sharp (pun intended) focus needed for an early stage startup to prove their mettle before spreading the wings. Story dates back to nearly a decade ago when Razorpay was a toddler. At such an early stage, it needs insane conviction and gall to humbly refuse to do business with India's largest eCommerce company. Harshil and Shashank did just that. They were clear that they had to build a platform to on-board tens of thousands of companies and the distraction of working with one large company at an early stage would only delay their goal and the mission. Of course, today there isn't a firm that is not on Razorpay's platform. Do we have such clarity and willingness to sacrifice something seemingly colossal in the short-term for a long term greatness! PAYTM KARO.... The recent turmoil surrounding Paytm and Byju's has sent shockwaves through India's startup ecosystem, raising critical questions about governance, sustainability, and the role of dominant founders. Vijay Shekhar Sharma of Paytm and Byju Raveendran represent the archetype of the solo, alpha entrepreneur, celebrated for their boldness and vision. However, the near-collapse of their companies highlights the pitfalls of unchecked growth and a disregard for fundamental principles.
