PLEASE READ I’ve lived in many places, but Western North Carolina will always be my home. Hurricane Helene has caused so much damage across the country, with WNC being left in ruins. There are rural mountain towns that are completely gone. Families are still without power and expected to remain without for two more weeks, my own family included. Roads are destroyed, leaving people stuck and stranded. If you have the means, please consider donating to help the community rebuild. With the high levels of poverty mixed with geographical isolation, it will take years to undo the damage that this natural disaster has caused. PRIORITZE LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS - while national relief funds are great, it is the people on the ground in their communities that have the biggest impact. The core reason we founded Manatii back in June 2022 was to help The Bahamas recover after the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian. For those that do not know, Dorian: 🌀 Was the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the Atlantic 🌪 Worst natural disaster in recorded Bahamian history 💰 Caused over $3.4bn in damage to The Bahamas  🍃 Sustained winds of 185 mph (298 kph) 🏘 Left over 70,000 people homeless 😢 Killed over 1300 people With COVID hitting just 6 months later, a lot of aid organizations abandoned the area leaving a devastating situation for the local communities. Our philanthropic goal was to donate £2 from every bottle sold to charities that were helping The Bahamas rebuild. We couldn’t be more delighted to announce that, since our launch, Manatii has donated over £2,000 to Green Turtle Cay Foundation. Not only are they helping Green Turtle Cay in Abaco recover, they are also building infrastructure to help the island prepare for the next disaster. Their current project is to reconstruct the local primary school to also double up as a hurricane shelter. June’s Lesson Learned in a Small Buisness? Do your charity due diligence! •Meet the founders. Face to face is best but over Zoom works too. •Do as many checks as you can on the founders and any people who work for them. Use the internet, LinkedIn etc. •Ask for annual reports / accounts and get an Account to look them over and check against Companies House. •Ask for proof of how donations have been used. Pictures, concepts, videos, talk to the people it’s benefitted etc. We did our research and we’re so proud to be partnered with Green Turtle Cay Foundation 🐢   Here’s to many more donations in the future.   #rumwithpurpose

Hurricane Helene recovery update: East Tennessee How to help our region 👇🏼 10/7/24 DONATIONS/SUPPLIES Every place that takes them is inundated. Unless you’re answering a specific need, let’s hold off on donations for a while. This can help volunteers redirect their time from sorting donations to more pressing needs. VOLUNTEERS Churches and schools throughout the region need your help organizing and distributing donations. They need delivery drivers with four-wheel drive. They need people to help neighbors clean houses, cut trees, remove debris. Everyone is exhausted and they need your help. HEAVY EQUIPMENT If you or anyone you know has a way to get earth-moving equipment into these neighborhoods, let me know. I can help coordinate. Roan Mountain is one example. Spruce Pine is another. People are trapped due to trees down, large debris, bridges washed out. We need help clearing paths. MONETARY DONATIONS Cleanup and rebuilding will continue in the months and years to come. The devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina is immense. With many people stuck in place due to destruction and without water or electricity, our neighbors across the Carolinas require aid. For those seeking ways to help, we'd like to highlight and vouch for two local organizations accepting donations to support those in great need. The first is a sightseeing helicopter tour owned by a couple running supply drops from the downtown Greenville airport to the Western NC area. 🌪️ When Mother Nature Throws a Curveball 🌪️ Today, we faced a unique challenge while trying to keep our commitment to sustainability. One of our clients had booked us to remove some large furniture items, but there was a catch: donation centers were closing early due to an incoming hurricane! 🌧️ Many people don't realize that most donation locations have limits on what they can accept—and how much space they have available. This can make donating large items tricky, especially when time (or weather) isn’t on your side. While we do everything we can to keep items out of the landfill, today, nature had other plans.
