My Testimony - Chapter 11 - “Mustard Seed” [Matthew 17:20] - Over the course of the past several months I’ve learned about “life scriptures.” For me the James 2:14-26 (Faith without works is dead) is the trunk of my tree. There are several others that make up the branches, but in my life story, that has always been at the core. If you’re not willing to do the work needed to exercise faith, nothing positive will happen. So instead of feeling sorry for myself, I decided to exercise that faith bearing the uniform of a Team Member: non-slip shoes, black socks, a white undershirt, black slacks, and a red polo shirt. “Let’s have a party!” My first week was a challenge. I realized quickly why many say they couldn’t work in fast food. No matter your education or expertise, this work is not for the faint of heart. It takes special people and man did I draw a good hand. The folks I rubbed elbows and shoulders with every day became family. We grew great bonds and genuinely enjoyed working with one another. Speaking of heart, I almost had a panic attack when I rode solo on drive-thru drinks for the first time. No Masters degree or certification could have prepared me for what I like to call the “controlled chaos” of Chick-fil-A. The orders don’t stop, especially during peak. Small this, medium that, large this, no ice that, cup of ice, bag of ice, replenish my ice, ice cream, milkshake, no whip, with whip, hold the cherry, extra cherries, add a lemon, 5 gallons of lemonade! On top of all that you have to restock and replenish, in many instances, “All by myself.” For four hours, I was going coo-coo without the coco puffs. Thankfully, the training staff is superb and I felt equipped to do all “Front of House” duties in a short period of time. But at the very beginning the pressure to perform with accuracy and speed is real. Some customers have empathy when you make a mistake, others not so much, especially when they’re in a rush. Regardless the expectation is to get it right, smile, and say the famous phrase, “My Pleasure!” Much to my surprise, it truly has been. After a couple weeks, I realized my equation of work and faith was incomplete. I needed a seed, more specifically a mustard seed. Getting to corporate was going to be the steepest professional mountain I’d ever face and a seed needed to be planted. Faith would serve as sunshine and the sweat from work, the rain. I wear a dog tag photo of my kids and purchased a matching tag bearing the scripture of Matthew 17:20 to put on the opposite side. Also included was a clear heart with a single mustard seed encased on the inside. I wear that underneath my red polo everyday. This scripture became the roots of my tree. Now that I was fully equipped, it was time to scale the mountain. To be continued…

Use a variety of calls, such as owl hoots or turkey calls, to mimic natural sounds and entice the birds off the roost. 6. Be Patient: Remain still and quiet as the birds begin to wake up and fly down from the roost. Stay alert and ready to take your shot when the opportunity arises.
