Entry is open now - but why should you enter the Free From Awards? The trust gained from potential customers is especially important in the free from sector where the integrity of your product and manufacturing processes can mean inclusive, tasty experiences for an otherwise often marginalised community.... 🌟 Stand Out From the Competition - differentiate your product or brand – our logo is instantly recognisable to and resonates with consumers, helping them identify safe, quality products, providing reasons to try something new. 🌟 Enhanced Credibility - entering demonstrates a strong belief in a product which instils consumer confidence hence the value in displaying a logo. 🌟 Continuous Improvement - expert judges & invaluable bespoke feedback – every product is judged by a carefully curated panel ensuring all aspects of the product are considered, supporting your NPD. A unique collaboration We are unique in the collaborative approach we take with every entrant. We actively encourage entrants to fully leverage the benefits of entering and to take a proactive role, sharing their ideas and suggestions and working together to add genuine value to entrants, making the awards a pivotal part of their brand and/or activation strategies.

Well well well, looks like we're doing alright at Big Nose Kate Whiskey. Only test where you score 0/4 and get 100%. Brian Rosen shared the 4 mistakes all founders make; that is, almost all founders. At Big Nose Kate Whiskey the founding team has gone to superhuman lengths to not make these mistakes. In fact, the business has operated for almost three years on our original seed round (Hint: under $2.1mm) which funded commercialization and all growth to date. Here's some startup to-do's to supplement Brian's to-don'ts: >>> 1. Do not skip over your proof-of-concept phase Unless you love serial fundraising, don't use big brands as models for your startup. If you see a small brand experience exponential growth or 'growth-against-the-odds', watch the trendline for at least 3 resets. Anomalous sales are the symptom of injudicious cash use. There is nothing to gain long term by exhausting seed money to generate unrepeatable depletions. You need to spend the 18 + months analyzing the depletions you get THEN developing programs to deliver on those successes. Deeper, not wider. >>> 2. Outsource fractional support Hiring employees whether full or part time triggers the need for back-of-house infrastructure that your small operation might not necessarily need until a Series A. Curate your needs then get bids to create them. This applies to marketing, accounting/payroll, legal, and sales, etc. More with less. >>> 3. Learn about YOUR business, not just THE business There is undeniable pressure that comes with running a small business in a competitive space on borrowed time with other people's money. Resist the urge to be reactive and instead use your time being proactive. There isn't a one-size-fits-all and only a 3% difference in a product is enough to make a customer look twice. Focus on what you have, not what you don't. Square pegs don't fit in round holes. >>> 4. Don't assume when and where the next money will come from. Spirit brands are capital intensive and you need to be prepared to be uncomfortable. The system is not designed to fund dreams. In an era when social services are starved and social funding is expected, you have to be willing to accept that the trickle down (wealthy folks with philanthropic hearts) are not a practical strategy alone. You are a brand but you are also a service. Figure out what that service is and sell it to your customers to support the brand. Private tastings, LTO subscriptions, and collaborative events are all low-cost/high return activities to do in tandem with traditional fundraising. But, if you have a rich great aunt, give her my number please. (503)575-5728. Ok, don't forget to feed the fish and have fun! ta-ta, Mel
