Our Wellness team recently teamed up with Field of Dreams as part of their CSR programme to assist with maintaining their impressive horticultural site in Curraheen.🌱 Thank you to the RDJ volunteers who spent their afternoon working hard to get all of the jobs done. There was a great sense of teamwork on the day and the results were amazing!✨ Field of Dreams is a branch of the Down Syndrome Ireland charity. It was originally established to provide opportunities for adults with Down Syndrome for ongoing learning and development, with the ultimate aim of supporting them to access and integrate into paid, sustained work. However, they now provide support for people of all ages with Down Syndrome. #RDJ #lifeatRDJ #CSR #FieldofDreams

£20 million boost for adult social care and unpaid carers £20 million invested in innovative projects supporting people in adult social care and unpaid carers across the country. Funding will expand projects such as community shared living arrangements where carers support people in their own homes. Builds on government’s long-term support for adult social care with £8.6 billion additional funding invested in adult social care over this financial year and next, and £327 million to support carers through the Better Care Fund People in adult social care and unpaid carers will benefit from a £20 million boost to fund innovative projects across the country, as the government continues to deliver on its vision for social care reform. The Accelerating Reform Fund will expand community-based care models such as Shared Lives, a service that matches people aged 16 and above with approved carers. Under this scheme, people move in with their Shared Lives carer on a short- or long-term basis, giving people with care needs more freedom and autonomy and allowing them to live more independently in the community. Short-term care through Shared Lives also supports unpaid carers by providing them with more flexibility and breaks. https://lnkd.in/eX-3w7_D

It's more than just a home...it's creating space and independence!🏡 The step change from #homelessness, to a hostel, to a flat (assuming that's available) is too much for many people and therefore our Partners are able to stand in the gap and provide fully independent living but with floating support. Here are some of the many things they do: ➡️ Prevent isolation ➡️ Encourage social interaction ➡️ Provide a residential address - this helps massively with finding work ➡️ Introduce the resident to other agencies who can help i.e. counselling, trauma support, qualifications etc. ➡️ Take them to medical appointments ➡️ Help them with their benefit applications ➡️ Encourage residents to engage in meaningful activities such as volunteering, training, education or employment ➡️ Provide reassuring support on a daily basis ➡️ Keep people safe ➡️ Help restore family and personal relationships. Each person is unique and has different needs, with different reasons for being #homeless. So partners will always personalise everything and create individual support plans , with the ultimate goal of creating independence and space to grow and transform. 🙏💚 #HomeForGood #HomelessnessAwareness #HousingCrisis #HomelessLives #HomelessPeople #HomelessShelter #Shelter #Crisis #Charity #UKHousingCrisis

We were really excited to host our first ever Carer Friendly Conference at Westbank Community Health and Care this year. As part of our #CarersWeek program, we Put Carers on the Map by inviting professionals from Health, Social Care, Charities and our Carer Friendly Partners to join us to find out more about the work we do at Westbank, how we've supported carers for over 25 years and to explore how we can all work in partnership together to keep supporting carers now. Unpaid carers take on a huge responsibility, which whilst often rewarding it can also be really difficult and take it's toll physically, mentally and emotionally. The impacts of being a carer can lead to your own health conditions developing or worsening, financial hardship and poverty, loneliness and isolation to name just a few. There are over 74,000 carers in Devon and millions across the nation, delivering care to the value to £162 billion every year, they're really like a second NHS. We'll always need carers in society, but at Westbank we believe that together we can create a future where people don't suffer because they care for someone else, where they can live more fulfilled, happier, healthier lives for longer. Message me or comment here to find out more about how you and your organisation can join us in supporting carers, it doesn't have to be complicated, it just needs to be done. Here's some ways you could work with us: 🥁 Bang the drum for us, follow us on social media, share our posts and help us raise awareness of unpaid carers. 📜 Sign up to be a Carer Friendly Employer, supporting those carers who are working for you - more info here https://lnkd.in/eX9NhYtz ✒ Sign up to be a Carer Friendly Community and support carers in your community or customer base 👥 Volunteer for us or help us to raise funds 🏢 Explore partnership opportunities with us and see how our organisations could work together in different ways 💲 Sponsor a Young Carer to attend the Young Carers Festival where they can get to know other young people in a similar situation, make life long friends and get to experience what we all take for granted as ordinary childhood experiences. #carers #carersweek #unpaidcarers #puttingcarersonthemap #carersuk #carerstrust #devon #exeter Carers UK Carers Trust Devon County Council NHS Devon

Charity and Community Development Specialist | Strategy I Effective Governance | Community Consultation | Project and Programme Development
As we bid farewell to the summer holidays and welcome the approaching Autumn, it's crucial for charity and community leaders to identify and prepare for the imminent challenges in the months ahead. The impending conclusion of a Government comprehensive spending review and Labour’s first budget on 30 October will serve as a crucial indicator, revealing where the axe will fall to fill a £22bn black hole in the Government’s accounts. With rising costs and increasing client demands for services due to social welfare cuts, declining public funding, and volunteer shortages, it's crucial to stay ahead and adapt as an organisation to these challenging times. Uncertainty makes it hard to plan and decide on the best direction. This can lead to feelings of doubt, anxiety, and hesitation....but it can also spark innovation by pushing us to think creatively and explore new possibilities. Here are my top tips for staying ahead and dealing with these uncertain times: 1) Revisit your organisation's planning document: Question if the objectives in your plan are strong enough to deliver the work your charity needs to undertake over the coming years to support your service users' changing, increasing, and unmet needs. Setting aside time for trustees and staff to get away from the office to revisit these plans is worthwhile. 2) Budget realistically and consider increasing fundraising efforts: Regularly monitoring actual costs can help refine future planning. It's worth considering if you should focus on boosting fundraising. Now is the time to engage in more conversations with funders and donors, highlighting the impact of their past contributions and presenting clear plans for the future. 3) Assess your current programme and project delivery. Can you maximise your impact through these programmes by providing the best outcomes for your beneficiaries? Well-planned projects that meet a real need and maximise impact will appeal far more to funders in the future. 4) Increase your staff and volunteer engagement and appreciation policies: Appreciating and acknowledging their contributions, fostering loyalty, and maintaining continued support are essential in uncertain times. 5) Make sure you are demonstrating your charity’s impact. This is a chance to showcase your charity's achievements and motivate your team. A strong track record enhances a charity’s reputation, leading to greater media attention, partnership opportunities, and a stronger position for securing new funding or renewing existing grants. This autumn, make sure plans for impact reporting at both the organisational and project levels are well in place.... and remember to use all forms of media to shout about achievements and successes!

It is clear that our current #health and #care system needs to be reformed. Increased focus on the social determinants of health is required to understand and address the underlying causes of poor health and #wellbeing in people’s lives, working from a model of #prevention rather than treatment. We had the pleasure of hosting Stephen Kinnock, Minister of State for Care, at the Centre today to showcase our innovative approach to support across health and wellbeing. The Bromley by Bow Centre is a hub for the community. Together with our partners, Bromley by Bow Health, we offer our #community a place and a space to come, be and connect. Our person-centred, #holistic, and #integrated support works because it builds on the relationships our community has with our Centre. Our message is simple: Only together can the Third Sector and the #NHS address the growing #HealthInequalities in our communities. Our health and care system must be based on community #empowerment. Community Centres must be included as decision makers for our country’s health and wellbeing. Our model needs long term, sustainable funding, in contrast to the current funding model available to us, so we can continue the work our community deserves. #CommunityHealth #Charity
