A few months ago I posted about our 'Roadworker of the Week' series, a small idea that has grown legs, with continually positive sentiment from the public. We've now delivered over 25 posts, and we're seeing some amazing things happening - Roadworkers who see the posts are nominating themselves to showcase the work they do within the industry - People are nominating roadworkers they know, or have met - People are seeing our roadworker of the week, and sharing a story to prove how worthy they are of the title (like the below, an additional story we posted yesterday) - Unprompted, people are telling our staff they love these posts - Our teams are starting to plan a road worker of the week to tie in with other campaigns, or project milestones Humanising these amazing people shows everyone that roadworkers are a crucial part of society, not just mobile road cones. And just maybe, we can create a bit of behaviour change as well. Looking forward to the next 25 Roadworkers of the Week, and beyond.
You might've seen one of our Roadworker of the Week posts earlier this month, highlighting Graham Cooper from Fulton Hogan who works in the Manawatū-Whanganui region. After this post, we received a message that we had to share. While Graham was out, a four-year-old named Archie was very excited to see the grader in action! Graham went out of his way to stop and ask Archie if he wanted to take a look in the cab, who was more than keen to jump in and check it out! Thanks Graham for making Archie's week - we hear he won't stop talking about it.

Happy Labor Day! Today, we honor the American workforce's dedication, innovation, and resilience. Each of us, regardless of our role or industry, contributes to the tapestry of our nation's progress and prosperity. As we reflect on the meaning of Labor Day, let's acknowledge: 1. The pioneers of the labor movement who fought for the rights and dignity we often take for granted today. 2. The diverse skills and perspectives each professional brings to the table, driving innovation and growth. 3. The importance of work-life balance and the value of rest in fueling our best work. 4. The evolving nature of work and our collective responsibility to shape a future where all labor is valued and respected. To my colleagues, clients, and connections: Your hard work doesn't go unnoticed. Whether you're taking a well-deserved break today or on the job, know that your efforts make a difference. The first Labor Day was celebrated in NYC on September 5, 1882, organized by the Central Labor Union. On June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed a law making the first Monday in September of each year a national holiday. On Labor Day we honor workers and the role they play in building a strong and prosperous nation. Two months before my mother passed away from her chronic disease in 2005, we stumbled across a conversation of my job at IBM. She asked if I found meaning in my pursuit? what was the significance of my contributions to the society? was I helping people and making a difference in their lives? She always encouraged me to live my life with purpose and love. On this Labor Day, to honor my mother, it is my wish for all of us that our job (work) is not just an obligation, but also an act of gratitude, an expression of reverence for life. We live on through good works, the people we mentor/help, and the programs we create. Making a contribution sets off a chain reaction. Each person we touch passes on the kindness and caring to another person, and in this way our actions have a ripple effect. The author James Autry said, "Work can provide the opportunity for spiritual and personal, as well as financial growth. If it doesn't, we're wasting far too much of our lives on it." I cannot agree with him more. #HappyLaborDay #respectforworkers #contributions #wellbeing
