Finding the right therapist can feel daunting, but it's crucial for a successful therapy journey! Here are some tips to guide you: 1. Consider your needs and goals. What are you hoping to achieve through therapy? Anxiety relief? Relationship improvement? Processing trauma? Knowing your goals will help you find a therapist with relevant experience and expertise. 2. Research different therapy approaches. There are many different types of therapy, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. Explore options like CBT, ACT, EMDR, or psychodynamic therapy to find the best fit for you. 3. Get recommendations. Ask your doctor, friends, or family for referrals. Online directories like Psychology Today can also be helpful resources. 4. Pay attention to credentials and experience. Make sure your therapist is licensed and has experience working with your specific concerns. 5. Schedule consultations. Most therapists offer free or discounted consultations so you can get to know them and see if you feel comfortable. Therapy is an investment in your mental health. How often should you be scheduling therapy sessions? ⏰🗓️ Embarking on therapy is a unique journey for each individual, and a common question we hear at Canopy in our clients’ initial session is: ‘How often should I come in?’ The answer varies, as it’s deeply personal and depends on several factors: 👉🏽The nature and intensity of your concerns 👉🏽Your specific treatment goals 👉🏽How you respond to therapy Some may find significant improvements in just a few sessions, while others might benefit from a more extended journey. Therapy can be brief and solution-focused, or it can be long-term and exploratory. Our psychologists tailor their approach based on your needs and goals. ☺️ Therapy may vary from once a week, every fortnight, once a month, or spaced out to every couple of months, or on a needs basis.
