We were thrilled to hear from Gianfranco, a senior at Brunswick School from Cohort 24, about his experience attending the Launch Generation Program by Cresset at the University of San Diego this summer.   Gianfranco shared, “The program was transformative, significantly enhancing my financial literacy and business skills. I learned about investing, pitching, negotiating, networking, and the steps to create a startup. The daily speakers were successful entrepreneurs and industry professionals who shared their journeys and offered valuable insights, adding real-world context to our lessons. Working in small teams with a mentor, my team created a startup called ArtSpark, and won ‘Most Ready to Launch.’ The program boosted my confidence in public speaking and teamwork, and solidified my passion for finance, which I am now considering pursuing in college.”   When scholars have access to these transformative educational and early career opportunities, it helps them better prepare for the future. We are grateful for our many partners who help make opportunities like this one possible for students!

Congratulations to REACH Prep alumna Angela Jorge!

Last month, our scholars were invited to attend Macy’s Social Impact Collaborative Summit at Macy’s Herald Square. Shanika D., (Cohort 20) Celeste B., (Cohort 20) Janet O., (Cohort 21), and Chelsea U. (Cohort 20) attended the summit and had an impactful experience. Our scholars explored potential career paths, networked with professionals, and gained valuable insights across different industries. Additionally, they completed value mapping and discussed aligning their values and passions with future careers. Summit participants also reviewed how to set smart goals, and dove into elements of fashion and owning personal style. We are grateful to Macy's for their partnership and commitment to creating brighter futures!

While preparing for his freshman year at Yale University, Andrew R. from Cohort 22 spent his summer as an intern with one of our corporate partners, Positive Sum.   Andrew said, “My time with Positive Sum gave me real, firsthand experience creating and presenting decks to business professionals. Moreover, it gave me the opportunity to dig deep into the VC landscape and familiarize myself with fundraising, media, deal flow, and institutional finances. Meeting one-on-one with different people at the firm allowed me to glimpse into the world of market research, media management, and high-risk investment strategies. I look forward to exploring other opportunities in finance.”   Andrew worked in Positive Sum’s Greenwich, CT office. He was tasked with an independent project to recommend five potential venture capital firms to Positive Sum for strategic partnerships, providing actionable suggestions to enhance the firm’s investor network and deal sourcing for their upcoming fund.    We are proud of Andrew’s accomplishments and look forward to hearing about his future success as he heads off to Yale!

For the last few years, REACH Prep has used “Latinx” to refer to students of Latin descent. After having many conversations over the last year among staff and students, we are moving to use Latine instead of Latinx. Wendy Corona, a REACH Prep alumna from Cohort 18 and Columbia University graduate in the class of 2024, wrote a piece that serves as a great primer on the topic. She states, “In our continuous effort to foster inclusivity and respect within our community, we must adopt language that embraces our commitment to diversity.”
