💡 This week's nudge from Respondr is about networking. Networking is more than exchanging business cards; it's about building relationships that can provide support, share knowledge and open up career opportunities within the emergency services sector. From learning about the latest advancements in medical response techniques to gaining insights into leadership in high-pressure environments, networking events offer a platform to engage with peers, mentors and industry leaders who can influence your professional journey. A great tip that I learnt a few years ago is about planning ahead for events. For every network or group event you should look to meet and engage with at least 5 new people or connect with at least one of the key presenters. So instead of mingling around with people you know, get out of your comfort zone and approach new people, or it might be someone that you have always admired but never had the chance to connect with. It is much easier to do this if you have a colleague with you. So my key tips for preparing for any network event: ➡️ Know what the keynote speakers are going to be talking about and have a couple of relevant questions prepared ➡️ Find out who is likely to be attending and have a plan for who you want to connect with ➡️ Talk with a colleague about the event and collaborate on the plan. You will both benefit from interacting at the event. For more tips, head to the article - link is in the comments below ⬇️

➡️I had the opportunity to attend an online live session hosted by Cathy Machingaidze - Executive Recruiter ,last week. ➡️Among the valuable insights shared, one particularly noteworthy point was the importance of establishing a professional network prior the requiring its utility . ➡️In her own words she said”build a network before you need it “. ➡️Now building your network before you need it is a valuable strategy for personal and professional growth and that way you are able to create a strong foundation of relationships that can help you achieve your goals and navigate challenges. ➡️It emphasises the importance of being proactive and intentional in cultivating connections. ➡️I therefore propose that this week be focused on establishing meaningful connections that will generate positive results in due course. Good luck.

What to transition from government to corporate? Network. Network. Network. Why? Here’s a short list. 1. **Opportunity Identification**: Networking helps you discover job openings, projects, or advancements within the corporate world that may not be advertised publicly. 2. **Access to Information**: Through networking, you gain insights into industry trends, corporate culture, and insider knowledge about specific companies, which can give you a competitive edge during interviews or in your current job. 3. **Building Relationships**: Establishing connections with professionals in your field allows you to build relationships that can lead to mentorship, collaboration, and referrals. These relationships can also provide support and guidance throughout your career. 4. **Personal Branding**: By networking effectively, you can showcase your skills, experience, and expertise to others, helping to enhance your personal brand within the corporate world. 5. **Professional Development**: Networking events, workshops, and conferences provide opportunities for learning, skill development, and exposure to new ideas and perspectives, which are essential for career growth in corporate settings. If you read this far; here’s a bonus hint. A bit shy? Don’t know where to start? Read this book. “How to Talk to Anyone” by Leil Lowndes
