I'm often running behind on all the podcasts I want to listen to, and this morning was no exception. I tuned into an episode of 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗯𝘆 𝗛𝗕𝗥 (from last March!) that talked about 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 - a topic close to my heart. As a big fan of all things leadership, no one will be surprised to hear that I frequently listen to podcasts on leading with impact. This one left me particularly inspired, especially given General Counsels often debate having meaningful influence at the executive level.
In leadership, it’s not just what you know, but 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 - and that 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽 𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁 (of which I am also a huge fan).
Real leadership power lies in one's ability to inspire confidence, communicate effectively, and make bold decisions under pressure. Here’s what stood out:
• 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹; 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.
It’s not just about knowing the law; it’s about using your presence to influence decisions. Confidence and clarity turn information into impact.
• 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
Being prepared and owning the space doesn’t just demonstrate competence, it builds trust, and that’s what leadership is all about.
• 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘆 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘆.
Mastering strategic communication allows us to connect, inspire, and lead with vision.
I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did!
