Author, Chartered Certified Accountant, Childcare & Nursery Business Development Consultant, Language promoter through published book “The ABC of World Languages”
It’s been 3 months since I launched my book “The ABC of World Languages.” What has been your favourite song? I usually find it hard to choose a favourite as I enjoyed all of them when I was building up the content of the book. Nevertheless, the Vietnamese song “Cháu Yêu Bà” remains one of my top favourites. There are various ways to use the book depending on the age of the child. 1- sing the songs either in the native language on in English .. you can search for those nursery rhymes or songs on youtube and sing along. 2- learn ABC alphabets through the fun language concept. 3-for older children, enjoy copying the way alphabets are written in different languages. 4- promote diversity and inclusion through this book. A great addition for your library. 5- encourage children speaking those languages to share their experiences and boost their confidence. How else did you all use the book! If you did not buy it yet, get your copy today from Amazon or reach out to me to purchase one. Did you know, the book would be an excellent gifts to children and adult as it’s a great discovery for young ones and childhood reminiscence for the older ones. #books #languages #children #childhood memories #nurseryrhymes

In our latest ScribeSpeaks blog, Content Manager Tabitha Miller talks about the importance of being bilingual. As an English and Spanish speaker, Tabitha echoes ScribeConcepts' beliefs: Diverse experiences drive language diversity and we strive to prepare educators to support their English Learners. One small example that makes a difference is the distinction between the terms "Latino(a)" and "Hispanic." These distinctions are important to make people of diverse backgrounds feel seen, heard, and understood. Read about Tabitha's experience, along with others, at ScribeSpeaks: https://lnkd.in/e_uNd8c2 #BilingualEducation #HispanicHeritageMonth #LatinxHeritageMonth #EducationForAll [Image Description: Large text reads "Have you ever wondered?" Smaller text below explains that Hispanic refers to those who speak Spanish; Latino(a) refers to someone from a specific geographic location; Latinx is gender-neutral; and Spanish refers to a language or someone from Spain. The large blue, pink and orange Venn Diagram explains the distinction further. In blue, "Latino(a)" refers to people from Latin American countries, not Spain. On the right, in orange, "Hispanic" refers to countries that speak Spanish, excluding Spain. In the middle, pink, is the overlap of the two distinctions, listing countries that are both Latin and Hispanic.]

Different strategies in raising bilingual children; the OPOL strategy, short for "one parent, one language". Parents who speak different languages speak to their children in their language. Another approach is to speak one language at home when the children are exposed to the other language at school. https://lnkd.in/dVpvDZ_7

Could the Normans talk to the Saxons?.As Del Boy might have said mais oui mais oui! Even in history many people had a little familiarity with a couple of languages in addition to their native tongue. Some well enough to serve as translators, maybe also using the lingua franca, Latin, if they are not quite familiar with Norman French and Early English. There is also another, special group of people who will be bilingual in Norman French and Early English if you wait a few years. This group is called ‘children’. Those of Norman parents have been raised by their Anglo-Saxon servants, and will happily have learnt Early English from the cradle, and will have learnt it as older children in their favourite place, the kitchen. Children learn languages frighteningly fast, and within very few years you will have adult Normans who are entirely at home with Early English as well as Norman French. Norman French at first remained entirely used amongst the Norman nobility, but gradually became an exclusively upper-class use, even not very well, and 300 years after the invasion Chaucer (writing in a later version of English, first as a member of the royal court) could happily take the piss out of people using poor French so that they could sound posh. So be sure that Norman kids were quite at home with Early English as with Norman French. Probably more so, since Early English would have served their needs better. So by, say, 1090 or 1100, Normans were bilingual with French and English so the problem, if there ever was one, just goes away.

Latino Affairs Liaison @ Prince George's County | Empowering Latino/a Leaders in Government: Elevating Futures, Shaping Policy.
🌟 End Language Shaming in the Latino Community🌟 Language is a vital part of our identity and culture. Yet, language shaming within the Latino community continues to be a troubling issue. It’s time to stand up and say, “¡Basta ya!” This needs to stop immediately. As the Latino Affairs Liaison, I have found it enlightening to interact with our Latino community and hear the experiences of our non-Spanish speaking members. They often feel left out of conversations around Latino affairs because they don’t speak Spanish and feel “less Latino” because of it. Bridging this gap in our community is crucial for our unity and strength. We must embrace and celebrate our linguistic diversity. Whether you speak Spanish, Spanglish, or English, your voice matters. Let's support each other and create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected, regardless of the language they speak. Join the conversation and help put an end to language shaming. Together, we can foster unity and understanding within our community. #LanguageShaming #LatinoCommunity #InclusiveCulture #CelebrateDiversity #EndLanguageShaming #CommunitySupport #Unity
Does not knowing Spanish make you less Latino? 🤔 In her Hisplaining column, Laura Martínez addresses this vital question. In this thought-provoking piece, Laura challenges the notion that fluency in Spanish is a measure of Latino authenticity. She discusses the pervasive language shaming within our community, citing a revealing Pew Research Center study. 📊📈 Key takeaways: 1. Language Shaming: The article discusses the shaming faced by Latinos who don't speak Spanish within their community. 2. Assimilation Pressures: It highlights how societal pressures in the U.S. have influenced Latino parents to refrain from teaching Spanish. 3. Inclusive Identity: Martinez advocates for a broader definition of Latino identity beyond Spanish language proficiency. 🔗 Curious to learn more?
