It's that time of year again! Every year Renaissance Learning publishes the What Kids Are Reading report. This report stands as the world's largest annual study of K‒12 reading habits, and this year’s edition offers unique insights into students' reading preferences, encompassing both digital and print formats. For those like me who are lovers of large data sets AND literature the findings really strike home. My favorite take away this year? The efficacy of book series and graphic novels in sustaining student interest and fostering reading skills. So often I encounter the sentiment that graphic novels "aren't enough" when in reality they can be significant literary works that give students an access point for complex ideas and approaches. I had an editor try to sell me a subscription to a scholarly journal. Here is my response IMHO. If you are trying to sell journals to librarians here are my rankings for consideration: 1) Content- Will it fit the research and curricular needs? 2) Access- Where is it indexed? 3) Price- Can we afford it? 4) Associations- Are faculty members part of the editorial team? 5) Publisher- Are they library friendly? 6) Authors- Will my faculty publish in it?
