The V beam antenna (not to be confused with the inverted V) is a form of long wire antenna sometimes used on the HF bands to provide gain and directivity. Although not many people may have the room for this style of antenna, they have been used to very good effect in many remote locations where space is not an issue. Broadcasters or commercial communications organisations have been known to use them very effectively. They use the fact that when a wire is many wavelengths long, the main radiation lobes move towards the axis of the antenna.
