You don’t need more tactics. You don’t need more strategies. You don’t need the perfect product. You don’t need more courses. The only rule in marketing that matters is this: You need to care more about your customers than anyone else. Care enough to listen - not to talk. Care enough to solve their problem - not yours. Care enough to help them win - not just to make a sale. When you care, your customers will see it in every aspect of your work. They will become loyal. They will tell others about you. They will buy from you again and again. So, focus on this one thing in your marketing. It’s the only rule that matters.

Someone said marketing is just about marketing the product and selling the product. Obviously this is BS. In reality, a good marketer sees the whole scope of a business. While revenue and profit are ultimately the goals, if the business model itself isn't effective, your marketing efforts might feel like you're running on a hamster wheel without seeing tangible results. It’s important to step back and evaluate the business model, and even suggest improvements if necessary. For this reason, I strongly recommend that marketing professionals consider taking business development courses.

In "This Is Marketing", Seth Godin distinguishes between being "marketing driven" and being "market driven." Seth views marketing as a means of service in which awareness of people's wants, needs, and dreams is the driving force for marketers. The manner in which products and services are delivered to their target population is not meant to be smoke and mirrors that trick people into something they don't want but a sincere endeavor to satisfy customers. To be market driven is to listen, to be marketing driven is to push what is not actually wanted. Intriguing book to introduce marketing concepts.

"Excellent marketing can elevate a decent product , while poor marketing can hinder a great one! " "Perfect products don't always win, but great marketing does." Even if you have a perfect or excellent product, if you don't market it well, it might not succeed. On the other hand, a good marketing strategy can make a product successful, even if it's not perfect. Perfectionists might focus too much on making their product perfect, but neglect marketing, which can lead to poor rewards.

95% of the time, when I chat with someone about marketing issues, they have one (or all 3) of these things going on. - Lack of strategy - Inconsistency - Lack of confidence The result... It goes something like this. 1) fill out a form on a website and crickets.... 2) fill out a form on a website, and immediately, it goes to the hard sell. 3) no leads or lack of quality leads 4) Revenue not growing 5) belief that marketing doesn't work! But guess what.... winging your way through your marketing won’t cut it anymore. Start with a plan. I promise it will solve a whole heap of problems. Do you have a plan? Or are you winging it?

Marketing is the perfect example of FAFO (Fuck Around, Find Out) extremism. You have to do a dozen things differently for a few to stick. But if you're only focused on the `metrics` of success, you're never going to do anything worthwhile. The paradox is the difference between good marketing and average marketing.
