Let's dive into an essential strategy for treating Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS): Massed Practice over Distributed practice. ๐ฃ๏ธ CAS often demands intensive intervention, and the way we structure therapy sessions can make a big difference. When we talk about intensity, we're referring to two key factors: the amount of treatment and how it's distributed over time. Massed practice is all about concentrated, focused practice sessions. Instead of spreading practice out over several weeks, we pack it into a shorter timeframe. For children with CAS, this approach can be incredibly effective, especially when targeting specific words or syllable shapes. Research suggests that children with CAS benefit significantly from this type of intense, focused practice. By zeroing in on a smaller set of targets and practicing them intensively, children show greater improvement and better outcomes. So, when designing therapy sessions for CAS, consider the power of massed practice. By providing concentrated, focused practice sessions, we can maximize progress and help children with CAS reach their communication goals faster. ๐ช๐ฏ #apraxiaawareness #apraxiaawarenessmonth #childhoodapraxiaofspeech #cas #BetterHearingAndSpeechMonth #CommunicationDisorders #principlesofmotorlearning #speechlanguagepathologist #slp #speechtherapy #apraxia #speechtherapist #motorspeechdisorders #speechies
