But shoppable TV is far more nascent and has a narrower meaning. It refers to buying something directly from a TV screen using a remote control, such as (but not limited to) Roku and Fire TV remotes. In short, if you buy something using your TV remote, that’s shoppable TV. But when you use another device to complete the purchase, such as a phone, that’s T-commerce, technically speaking. Very interesting - as I was reading this before I read the conclusion I wondered if what we’re seeing is TV being used to sweeten FTTP offers? The aim of which to move customers from copper, renew contracts and secure customers in new FTTP enabled areas. That could explain the modest increase in bandwidth and the uptake in bundled TV. Difficult to know without seeing the ARPU over time across the base.
This market research provides insight into the UK consumer's pay-TV and broadband consumption and preferences in the context of an increasingly competitive full fibre network provider sector with a wealth of online video and TV content offerings readily available.
