DC Mayor Muriel Bowser presented the FY 25 #FairShot Strategic Investments and Shared Sacrifices Proposed Budget to the DC Council on Wednesday, April 3. Her message: 📢 “The state of the District is strong, and we’ve been able to accomplish a lot over the past 9 years. But we are facing a confluence of post-Covid factors that require us to be very strategic and make catalytic investments in our comeback. These were our guiding principles — and we are focusing on the pillars of our comeback: ✅Public safety ✅Downtown ✅Education This budget includes shared sacrifices — across government and across the community. But DC is unique: we must budget across a five-year plan. By being smart and strategic now, we can change the outyears. And I’m optimistic about our future. We never give up and we know how to make a strong comeback. But our wins are never accidental. Through strategic investments and shared sacrifice, our FY25 Budget will keep DC the best city in the world not just for the next few years, but for generations. Let’s stick together.” Read more ⬇️⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e9MASZrg

Strategy Consultant | Management Problem Solver | Helping complex organizations create better outcomes.
Kudos to Cornell University: Cornell Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy and Dean Barry for putting together such an outstanding panel of speakers on "Addressing Housing Inequality through Business and Policy Innovation" 👏 Thank you to former HUD Secretary and Latino Community Foundation CEO, Julián Castro, Professor Laura Tach of Cornell, developer and visionary Ernst Valery of the Aequo Fund, and former Midwest Multifamily Director (HUD) and Loyola law professor, Dan Burke, for your insights and prescriptions! Main takeaways: 🏘 The Low Income Tax Credit (LITC) is the engine block of affordable housing but entails complex public and private funding layers ("lasagna") that make financing take a long time 🏘 Particular barriers facing rural communities and multifamily construction - economic, political, cultural 🏘 "Where the capital goes matters" - the power and role developers and investors have in solving the housing crisis 🏘 Ultimately the need for Planning, Policy, and Business to bring their respective disciplines and viewpoints to bear on the problem. Build smarter! Go Big Red 🐻

While researching and working with Ruhi Maker, I learned so much about zoning and how it can create denser, more equitable, and climate resilient cities.
Empire Justice Center submitted comments and recommendations in response to the City of Rochester draft zoning code. The proposed code is a step forward in promoting housing density and diversity, but there's more work to be done. Our community deserves equitable solutions to housing affordability, advancing equity, and climate change to propel the City of Rochester forward. View the memo to see how we can shape a brighter future for the City of Rochester, together: https://lnkd.in/gFX2Y6ba Thank you to Barb Van Kerkhove, PhD, Researcher and Policy Analyst, and Ruhi Maker, Esq., Senior Staff Attorney, for compiling these recommendations!
