How I’ve Reviewed Resumes for 14+ Years – Avoid These Common Mistakes! After over 14 years in recruitment, I’ve seen thousands of resumes—some great, but many that miss the mark. One of the biggest mistakes I see? Candidates not highlighting the experience that’s specific to the job they’re applying for. Bold opinion: A resume that doesn’t tailor itself to the job is as good as a missed opportunity. You have valuable experience—make it stand out! Every role you apply for should have a version of your resume that highlights the skills and accomplishments relevant to that specific job. Generic resumes don’t grab attention, but targeted ones do. How to fix it: 1. Tailor your experience. Focus on the skills that match the job description. 2. Use quantifiable results. Numbers are proof of your success. 3. Avoid clutter. Today, while going to work, I noticed a nearby company trash filled with resumes. It hurts so much that you took candidate resumes and threw them in the trash. It doesn't matter if the candidate is chosen or rejected; it's terrible practice to put resumes in the trash. If at all feasible, please take soft copies rather than hard copies. Please file any physical copies you take; do not discard them... #recruiterlife #recruitment
