Guided Pathways exists for the same reason community and technical colleges exist: to get students where they need to go. While every community college and technical school will approach this data-rich, student-centered, continuous improvement framework differently, there’s still much to learn from each other, especially in times of challenges. CPTC is the subject of a College Spark case study released last summer. Read on for details about how our practices have supported student learning and contributed to faculty development. https://lnkd.in/gg4DU8Pt

Scottish schools are quietly leading the way in the delivery for a more sustainable future with an estimated 35 Scottish school buildings - either recently completed or under construction - aiming to meet the international Passivhaus standard for energy efficiency. Described as a 'quiet revolution' by Ryan Holmes of Holmes Miller, more sustainable school buildings mean lower running costs, improved wellbeing for pupils - as well as a more comfortable learning environment. Everyone wins, including the planet. https://lnkd.in/e55-5uvV

Combating Climate Change in Urban Areas - Small Changes, Big Impact Urbanization has transformed the world’s landscape, with more people residing in cities. While urbanization offers numerous benefits, such as economic growth and better quality of life, it also contributes significantly to climate change. By incorporating small measures into urban planning, such as making space for trees in public parking lots, driveways, and city highways, we can counteract the negative effects of urbanization and make progress in the fight against climate change. This can be made effective with a web or mobile app. To track and involve community members in the effort to incorporate green spaces within urban areas, a dedicated mobile or web app can serve as an effective tool. Here are some features that can be included in the app: 1. Provide an interactive map that displays the locations of existing and potential green spaces, including parking lots, driveways, and highways. 2. Allow users to view upcoming tree planting events in their community and register to participate. 3. Offer a volunteer management system to track community members' involvement, including their participation in tree-planting activities and their contribution to the overall effort. This feature can help recognize and reward participants. 4. Implement a tree adoption program where community members can sponsor or adopt a tree. They can receive updates on the growth and health of their adopted tree, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility. 5. Provide access to educational resources, including articles, videos, and infographics, to raise awareness about the importance of urban greening and the benefits of trees. 6. Incorporate a social networking feature that allows community members to connect and share experiences, photos, and success stories related to urban greening initiatives. 7. Create a comprehensive tree inventory, cataloging the species, age, and health of trees within the community to help identify areas that require additional focus. 8. Enable users to report issues related to tree planting initiatives, such as vandalism, tree diseases, or unsustainable maintenance practices to facilitate prompt resolution and ensure the long-term viability of the efforts towards urban green spaces. 9. Show users the cumulative impact of their individual and collective efforts by displaying real-time progress indicators, such as the number of trees planted, carbon dioxide sequestered, and the expansion of green areas. 10. Send push notifications and reminders about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities to keep users engaged and informed. Urbanization, while a significant contributor to climate change, can also be a crucial part of the solution. By making small changes to urban landscapes to introduce trees into large parking lots, along driveways, and city highways, we can mitigate climate change effects. @ScholarshipOwl @NJIT www.njit.edu

We have been working with PPMi and this is another interesting development of education for sustainability. I know there are some out there- so please do contact Iselin. For example monitoring solar? Rewilding school grounds, creating collaborative learning spaces ( not rows in a classroom!), how you connect with the community, how you engage the students in food, procurement or other decision making and how this is made easy and visible in the layout of space. So how does the designed school environment enable ESD? Systems thinking, critical thinking, participation, interconnectedness, future’s thinking and understanding change and action learning? There was a great example of circular rooms at Nottingham University for collaborative participatory learning. So how is the school a learning lab for sustainability?
🌱💡 Do you know of any exciting approaches to integrating environmentally friendly infrastructure in schools or classrooms that also benefit learning and well-being? Or some policies that support retrofitting of classrooms and school buildings for this purpose? 🏫💡 Then drop your suggestions in this call ⬇ https://lnkd.in/dSsE8zUX The most innovative examples will be selected and showcased in a compendium of good practice and case studies that will be disseminated across the EU! The call for proposal and the compendium is part of a study PPMI is conducting on behalf of the European Commission on sustainable learning environments! So happy to be working with PPMI on this one. 🤗 #sustainable #design #classrooms #ESD #learning #teaching
