The offshore wind industry is facing challenges that may result in falling short of global capacity targets. A recent analysis by energy consultancy Westwood highlights the industry's struggle to meet projections for floating wind installations. Market upheavals, inflation, and challenges related to technology standardisation and infrastructure are contributing to a shift in industry sentiment. While there is cautious optimism about the potential of floating wind, stakeholders emphasise the need to invest in manufacturing capability and infrastructure. The industry's future growth prospects remain significant, but collaboration and innovation will be crucial in overcoming these challenges. What do you think? 🚨 As the push for renewable energy surges, offshore wind farms are stepping up as key players in the race for sustainable power. But there's a critical issue looming—wind turbine wakes—and it's more problematic than many realize. These wakes, areas of reduced wind flow downstream of turbines, can lead to power deficits of up to 30% in some cases. Experts are raising alarms that the current models for predicting these effects are inadequate, potentially threatening the future of offshore wind projects. 💡 Learn how Swarm™ is revolutionizing offshore wind power with cutting-edge turbine control strategies that optimize energy production and reduce wake losses. 👉 Read the full blog to understand why addressing wind turbine wakes could be the key to ensuring the future success of offshore wind: https://hubs.la/Q02-JYq_0 #OffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy #WindTurbines #SustainablePower #WindESCo #EnergyInnovation #CleanEnergy

I’ve just read Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC)’s annual offshore wind report, which was published last week. Despite the challenges the offshore wind industry faced last year, 2023 saw the second-highest number of installations and the industry is primed to see continued global growth📈. The report also highlighted how: - 2023 saw connection of 11 GW of offshore wind to the grid globally (an increase of 24% year-on-year) - In Europe, a new wave of markets neighboring the North and Baltic Seas, Mediterranean, and Atlantic Ocean are seeing offshore wind as a way to enable economic and industrial growth. - With the right frameworks in place, the world can be on course to deploy 410 GW by 2033. But it’s not time to get complacent. If we are to meet individual country targets, we must maintain momentum and focus on installing capacity that enables us to reach these goals. We are racing against time to get new wind plants up and running to supply communities with green energy and save our planet from rising carbon emissions. 🌎 #EnergyTransition #OffshoreWind #MoreWindNow
