It’s only a few days now until Euro24 kicks off in Germany. Which team are you rooting for?   Did you know that not only does the winning country receive a sizeable prize of around £26m, but on top of that each player receives a fee for every match played. With all the money that sloshes around in the football world, there are plenty of high earners.   And with that comes tax planning, unless you want to end up like Paul Gascoigne, Paul Merson and Diego Maradona all of whom went bankrupt.   Back in the ‘real world’, while we aren’t earning anything anywhere near these sorts of incomes, it still pays to get financial advice, especially if your earnings are between £100,000 and £125,140 where you fall into the 60% tax trap.   The personal allowance is reduced by £1 for every £2 over £100,000, so by the time you hit £125,140, you have no personal allowance.   This means for every £100 you earn above £100,000, you’ll receive only £40 as you lose an additional £20 via the reduced allowance.   You can avoid the 60% tax trap by paying more into your pension - the annual allowance is now £60,000, so if you haven’t already maxed it out, this is a good tax planning strategy.   As always, it’s important to take financial advice before you make any decisions affecting your long-term financial future.   So, will you be watching the Euros or are you running as fast as you can in the other direction?   #investmentplanning #moneymatters #takecontrol #euros24

The next steps for a digital pound....News from the Bank for England .... The earliest we would issue a digital pound would be the second half of this decade. We are now in a design phase which will look at the technology and policy requirements for a digital pound over the next 2 to 3 years. In the design phase we will test how it could work in the real world. This will bring to life innovative ways to use it so you can see how it might be useful and relevant to you. We will also carry out detailed assessments to work out exactly how a digital pound would operate. At the end of this phase we will have enough information to make a decision on whether to move into a build phase. Parliament will also have a say before any digital pound in launched, and further public consultation will be held to make sure everybody has the opportunity to make your views heard
