To ensure objectivity, we proactively document these criteria upfront, preventing decisions from becoming subjective. Our goal is to avoid situations where a vendor is chosen based on non-essential factors, such as who brings the best treats to a demo. We've encountered instances where vendors went to great lengths, even bringing elaborate chocolate fountains to demonstrations. While it's a humorous digression, it underscores the need to stay focused on relevant criteria when making such decisions. What a crazy week. First of all, NRF. I personally did over 20 demonstrations, met with at least 150 prospects, partners, consultants and (most importantly) customers. I think I got about 12-15 hugs, lost count... We gave away 100 pounds of Belgian truffles, Godiva and Lindt and Rice Krispies and Oreos - that's thousands of smiles generated right there! Our growing team really worked well together, and that fills me with hope and a desire to do more, drive faster, throw harder. Covid, Covid everywhere and not a drop of fear. AND to cap it off - this afternoon it took about an hour and a half with a growing specialty retailer to identify over $10,000,000 (at cost!) in eminently doable and actionable inventory reductions using our Buyers Toolbox AP software. In just a few departments, so there's more to be had. This result alone is a return of something like 200X on the cost of our Merch Planning and OTB system. SOO FUN! Not to mention price point optimization and vendor scoring that will bring them even more in sales and margin improvements. I know everyone makes bombastic claims and promises the moon, so this all likely comes across as empty chest beating and nobody believes any of it. But darn it - I can't help it - feel like bragging. A good way to end this crazy week :-)
