A potential setback for the most vulnerable population in the state, private hospitals are preparing to halt the treatment of patients covered under the Karunya Arogya Suraksha Padhathi (KASP) from next month. The program was designed to relieve ordinary families from the financial burden of healthcare. Under the scheme, poor and vulnerable families are provided up to ₹5 lakh rupees per year for medical treatment. This scheme, implemented by integrating central and state health security programs, heavily relies on private hospitals, which are now preparing to withdraw from it. So, how did a scheme that served as a major lifeline for the common people in the public health security sector fall into crisis? Accumulating arrears from the state government and their reluctance to implement the Health Benefit Package (HBP) have prompted the decision. Each medical college is owed arrears of nearly ₹ 30 to 40 crores for the past ten months. If the government does not settle these dues, staff salaries will be delayed, and the functioning of medical colleges and associated hospitals will come to a standstill. Is the government no longer interested in continuing this scheme? Once announced, it is their responsibility to fund it, yet this has not been done. If there’s a financial crisis, why are other expenses unaffected? As always, the common people are left to bear the consequences. The Kerala Pravasi Association (KPA) urges the government to settle the arrears and resolve the crisis swiftly. . . #HealthcareCrisis #KASP #PublicHealth #FinancialBurden #HealthEquity #PrivateHospitals #KeralaPravasiAssociation #MedicalTreatment

What Prompted the Indian Government to Extend Ayushman Bharat for Senior Citizens Over 70? On 11th September, the Indian Government made a progressive move by extending the Ayushman Bharat’s cover for senior citizens above the age of 70 years. This policy move allows senior citizens to receive healthcare services under the scheme, irrespective of their income. This decision is noteworthy because it addresses the specific health needs of an aging population, where medical costs are often high. By covering 6 crore senior citizens, the extension promises to bring much-needed relief to a vulnerable group, offering them comprehensive healthcare access. However hurdles persist. Private hospitals have been withdrawing from Ayushman Bharat due to delayed reimbursements and low payment rates, which makes the implementation of this expansion uncertain. The government needs to address these operational issues to ensure that the policy’s benefits reach those it aims to protect, especially as the demand for healthcare services increases with the aging population. #ayushmanbharat #insuranceforall #healthprotection #uniongovernment #healthindustry #indianhealthindustry

**Ayushman Bharat: Expanding Healthcare Access in Bihar** Ayushman Bharat, India's flagship healthcare initiative, continues to transform the healthcare landscape across the nation. Bihar, with its unique challenges and opportunities, is emerging as a key player in this transformative journey. The state has witnessed a significant increase in hospital enrollments, reflecting the growing trust and participation of healthcare providers in the region. With over 316 hospitals enrolled under Ayushman Bharat in Bihar, we are witnessing a crucial shift towards accessible and affordable healthcare for millions. This momentum is not just a statistic—it’s a testament to the collaborative efforts of the government, healthcare providers, and community leaders who are driving this change. For development stakeholders—both national and international—Bihar’s progress under Ayushman Bharat is a case study in leveraging public health schemes to address regional disparities. It offers valuable insights into scaling healthcare initiatives in challenging environments, ensuring that no one is left behind. As we move forward, the focus must remain on strengthening these partnerships, enhancing the quality of services, and ensuring that every citizen in Bihar and beyond can access the healthcare they deserve. Let’s continue to build on this progress and work together towards a healthier, more equitable future. #AyushmanBharat #HealthcareForAll #Bihar #SustainableDevelopment #PublicHealth #GlobalHealth #UniversalHealthCoverage

I am compelled to share a distressing experience at Desun Hospitals, Ruby (Kolkata), hoping it brings attention to their billing practices. Recently, my sister was admitted to the hospital, and while the treatment under one doctor was satisfactory, the billing discrepancies were shocking: 1. Exorbitant charges: The final bill amount was unreasonably high, with no clear justification. 2. Unnecessary charges for dressing: Dressing was done once a day but was charged thrice daily. 3. Duplicate doctor fees: Although my sister was treated under one doctor, the bill included charges for two doctors. This lack of transparency and inflated billing adds undue stress to patients and their families during already difficult times. Hospitals should prioritize patient care over profit. I urge Desun Hospital to address these concerns and ensure fair practices to restore trust in their services. Has anyone else faced similar issues? Let’s raise awareness for better healthcare accountability. #Healthcare #DesunHospital #Transparency #PatientRights

Today, Prime Minister Modi launched the Ayushmann Bharat 70+ scheme, bringing essential healthcare to the senior citizens who need it most—a project I am proud to have helped build alongside an incredibly dedicated team at the National Health Authority. For me, this marks the second major initiative I’ve been part of at NHA (besides the ABDM wrapper). It’s difficult to put into words the fulfillment that comes from knowing our work will touch the lives of millions of elderly Indians. Health coverage for our 70+ population isn’t just policy; it’s a commitment to honoring and safeguarding the generation that built the foundation of our country. It is also a step forward towards universal healthcare for all in India by 2047. There will ofcourse be challenges, but with launch of NHCX (National Health Claims Exchange), and digital highways such as ABDM, accessing care will become seamless and effortless, sooner than later. Moments like these remind me of why we’re here—working to make a tangible impact, shaping a healthcare system that leaves no one behind. Today, we’ve taken a big step forward, and I couldn’t be prouder. Look forward to contributing to making eldercare more seamless and accessible. #AyushmannBharat #NHA #HealthcareForAll #Impact #Eldercare #viksitbharat
