#Smart_Bangladesh_Network is facilitating solutions to social problems for an inclusive #Smart_Society in Jamalpur. The first step is to clean the Gabakhal canal, followed by other canals and rivers. The goal is to create a model of an inclusive Smart Society use case. Thousands of local citizens will join the cleaning movement on May 31, 2024, at 7 am. Many thanks to Abul Kalam Azad Sir and his people, especially the Mayor from that constituency, for taking such benevolent action to restore the canal to its original functionality. However, I have no idea regarding the progress as to how far the canal is being cleaned and, most importantly, to see whether the illegally grabbed part of the canal is taken back or recovered from the devil land grabbers to ensure that it gets its functionality. The people are getting the benefit of it. Why aren't the other MPs moving forward to recover land or canal, pond, or pool, which are illegally grabbed by the devil groups?

🌧️ A Sunday Reflection: Our Shared Responsibilities 🌧️ After a week of productive work, I eagerly planned a relaxing Sunday. But as I went downstairs to fetch milk for my morning coffee, I was stunned to find everything flooded. (This is one of the most posh areas of Patna, by the way.) Navigating through the flooded streets, I observed a troubling reality: despite frequent municipal clean-ups, the drains were blocked with garbage. Many were obstructed by expanded gate areas, revealing a broader issue. This experience raised a key question: Is it solely the government’s responsibility, or do we all have a role to play? Our daily choices impact our environment significantly. It’s essential to recognize that our actions, from improper waste disposal to encroaching on drainage systems, contribute to these problems. Let’s remember that our community’s well-being depends on collective effort. As urban and public policy professionals, we are dedicated to addressing the pressing issues in our communities. Among these, the safety of sanitation workers (#Safaimitra) stands out as a matter of utmost urgency. Over recent years, #SafaimitraSuraksha has gained prominence, with governmental initiatives prioritizing dignity and safety for essential workers. These efforts, such as the #SafaimitraSuraksha Challenge, #NAMASTE, #NSKFDC schemes, and non-governmental initiatives, have not only significantly improved the lives of our Safaimitras but also instilled a sense of hope and optimism for a safer future. Despite these advancements, tragic incidents of death and accidents during hazardous cleaning of sewer lines and septic tanks continue to plague many cities. We have a limited understanding of morbidity and health impacts. In our pursuit of zero-incident sanitation operations, our team diligently collected and analyzed data on incidents since the inception of the #PEMSR ACT in 2013. We have conducted in-depth root-cause analyses and site visits to understand these incidents better. While some statistics are alarming, sharing them with the broader community is imperative to drive actionable change. We intend not to blame individuals or institutions but to foster collective introspection on working together to achieve zero-incident sanitation operations in India—a #Swachh and #Surakshit #Bharat. In the coming days and weeks, we will share #casestudies, #datapoints and #practicalactions. This is scary. We have to now accept this reality that somewhere in the very near future there will be many more places on this planet where drinking water will not be available at all. It is time to treat water at par with fossil fuels. We also need to make laws to criminalize wastage of water, at places where it is scarce. All this mind boggling development and advances in science and technologies, all these industrial revolutions, fancy gadgets and tools, apps, super highways, wonder materials discovered and invented, advances in AI, sorties in space, rovers on Mars and moons etc. that mankind has achieved in the past few thousand years, are nothing but a shame to the collective intelligence of us humans, as we have failed , in our pursuit of greediness, to nurture and care for our natural resources. Even animals know and use resources that are renewable and recyclable. We are the only species on this planet that has denuded and robbed its own home.
