I don’t think people want transparency from their leadership. They want something else. Transparency, to me, is about knowing everything that’s happening. Is it really transparency that you got to know everything? Because you can’t know everything. I’m not suggesting transparency is a bad thing—it’s a step in the right direction. What people really want is inclusion. Look, I recognize everybody can’t be included in knowing everything or being a part of every decision, but we’ve got to find a way to make people feel like they are part of the subject. They’re part of the decision-making process or part of the project so they are engaged in where we’re going and what steps are being taken along the way with their interests in mind. Transparency is about letting people know everything that’s happening. Inclusion is about bringing people into the decision-making process that got us there.
