It can be stressful as a Secondary Survivor when you are trying your best to support the primary survivor and your family doesn’t believe or support them. You can feel like you're stuck between a rock and a hard place, especially if the perpetrator is a family member. We encourage you to focus on your immediate family and support the primary survivor by attending family counseling. Do your research and allow a professional with experience helping survivors and their families to teach you coping techniques and strategies for dealing with unhelpful family members. Hearing from a professional may also help some of the doubting family members to better understand the survivor's perspective. A proper family counsel will never have the perpetrator present and will put the needs of the survivor first! As the secondary survivor, make sure you are reminding the primary survivor that you believe them, and you are here to support them however they need. If you would like to get support and meet other secondary survivors, consider joining our Online Secondary Survivor Support Group: https://lnkd.in/ebpnRAmk #janedoenomore #johndoenomore #secondarysurvivor #secondarysurvivors #familycounseling #mentalhealth #healing #healingjourney #familialsexualabuse #childhoodsexualabuse #familyhealing #familytips #mentalhealthawareness #sexualassaultawareness #sexualabuseawareness #supportsurvivors #believevictims

While children experience the 5 stages of grief when processing the loss of a loved one, research shows it isn't a linear progression. They might stay in one stage for longer than another, jump between them quickly, or skip some entirely. Are you unintentionally damaging your future relationship with your adult children? 🤔 Do you truly want to foster a lasting, positive connection with them? Unless, of course, you want to be one of those people that channel their inner lion and, once you’re kids reach a certain age, you kick them out of the pack and are happy to never see them again. Most parents dream of a future filled with mutual respect, admiration, and love with their adult children, maybe even earning the title of Gran or Grandpa of the Year. 🏆❤️ However that’s not what many parents do. They berate and anger, they humiliate and belittle, they frighten and they manipulate. Now sometimes, in real moderation, every parent will do these things now and again. However it is all too easy to lose the balance. To find yourself never praising or congratulating, never complimenting or admiring, never loving or caring, because you’ve got stuck in a control loop. Ask yourself: Do you want to be loved or just obeyed? Admired or simply accepted? Do you want to be part of something loving, not just because you’re a parent by title, but because you’ve earned respect through love and care? Reflect on this and join the conversation. 💬👇 #ParentingTips #PositiveParenting #ParentChildRelationship #ParentingAdvice #MentalHealth #FamilyWellness #SelfReflection #ParentingJourney #EmotionalWellbeing #HealthyRelationships #parentingteens #headstrong #headstronghub #family #familydynamics #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #scotland #glasgow #edinburgh #TherapyTalks #BreakTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters #TherapyWorks #RealTalk #EmotionalWellness #mentalhealth #therapistsofinstagram
