I still remember the conversation that changed my understanding of relationships. I was in a meeting with a colleague who was sharing their concerns about a project. I was about to interrupt with a solution when I caught myself and instead chose to listen attentively. I maintained eye contact, nodded to show I was engaged, and asked open-ended questions to clarify their thoughts. In that moment, something shifted. My colleague felt heard, understood, and valued. The conversation transformed from a monologue to a dialogue, and we collaboratively found a solution that worked for both of us. Active listening is a powerful tool for building stronger relationships.
