Opera? Are you serious? Last summer I had a patient who was a tailor at an opera company. He came in for excruciating back pain. Their job is sitting at the sewing machine for 8 hours, bent in half. Of course, they make the most visually stunning costumes crucial to the operatic experience. (That’s another story) He started to progress over the summer during the “off-season.” But when the new season began to ramp up in August, it was like we were back at square one again. It’s a massive operation and one huge, collective labor of love. In other words, lots of hands on deck at all times. Real talk, it’s exhausting, I know. I used to work for an opera company. Some quick stats. The MET Opera employs: ⮕ about 80 full-time singers ⮕ about 90 full-time orchestra players ⮕ other full-time performers, like dancers and principal singers. ⮕ a large number of part-time performing artists throughout the season. ⮕ about 400 administrative staff members. ⮕ In total, about 3,000 people are part of this massive production across various capacities, including full-time, part-time, and seasonal and freelance contracted roles. Do you understand the levity of what makes an opera come to life? ♪ Audio ♪ Scenery ♪ Lighting ♪ Production ♪ Costume shop ♪ Wigs and makeup ♪ Stage management ♪ Technical direction ♪ Flying & rigging ♪ Properties ♪ Orchestra ♪ Wardrobe ♪ Chorus ♪ Admin …to name a few. Not to mention how athletic operatic singing is! The grandeur and attention to detail are truly extraordinary. The performances are mind-bending. Backstage magic is always happening in real-time… live orchestra (my favorite!), and voices that captivate your very essence and hold you hostage as you feel through every last lingering drip of emotion. Your heart will not be the same. ⮕ It would be avant-garde if the Met Opera had its own designated Chiropractor to take care of its 3,000-person flagship of classical music and performance. 🎭 …which, is really what they are known for artistically (being avant-garde). The benefits? One concept— nervous system connection. Life changing, bar none. The unleashing of artistic explosion would be the most magic anyone has ever seen, heard, and experienced in the history of the opera. Because the cast and everyone backstage and otherwise will be connected. It’s never too late to lead the ship to something that’s never been done before!

About 9 months back, I made the switch to #OperaOne browser and have never looked back back! 🌟 My Macbook feels like it's breathing fresh air since ditching Chrome. With Opera One as my default browser and Opera GX as my speedy 'research browser,' I've experienced a remarkable shift in productivity. Here are some fascinating stats to consider: 1. Opera One uses noticeably less memory compared to Chrome, ensuring smoother performance even with multiple tabs open. 2. With Opera GX, users can save more battery life compared to other browsers, providing extended usage without worrying about power drainage - They have this cool "Battery Saver" mode 3. Opera's built-in ad blocker speeds up page loading drastically, making browsing faster and more efficient. But it's not just about stats – it's about the features that enhance my browsing experience: 5. Opera's customizable themes and sound effects allow me to tailor my browser to suit my style and preferences, adding a fun touch to my online activities. 6. The Flow feature is a game-changer for me – seamlessly sharing links, notes, and files between my devices has never been easier, keeping me connected and organized. 7. Opera's integrated messengers for Spotify and WhatsApp keep me in touch with colleagues and friends without the need for separate apps, streamlining communication and boosting productivity. 8. And let's not forget the Snapshot tool – capturing and editing screenshots directly within the browser saves me time and hassle, especially when I need to share visuals for work or personal purposes. So, if you're tired of browser crashes, slow performance, and constant battery drain, why not give Opera One and Opera GX a try? Trust me, you won't regret it. What's your go-to browser? Let's chat in the comments! 🚀 #OperaOne #OperaGX #ProductivityBoost

Every Opera Singer, Instrumentalists and non musical creative should have a business alongside their art. Each year a small company where a new singer would get to debut a role and get paid for it struggles or shuts down. This puts a lot of stress on the audition season. Singers with the dream of singing full time need to be able to sustain themselves and audition season until the career takes off. If you don't have a trust fund or your families Amex, you need to figure out how to do it on your own. The best thing I did to survive the launch phase was build a business alongside the career. You need something that isn't going to take all your time away from auditions, lessons, coaching and practice time. You need something that will travel with you and has time flexibility. If you're someone who is looking to build something alongside what you're already doing, click+ and DM "biz" #operasinger #tenor #musician #artist

TL:DR: criticism is a trigger for me due to ten years of opera industry bullshit. I really do struggle with criticism. It’s one of my biggest issues - admittedly. For a decade I received it for the smallest things, the way my vowels were shaped, the way I produced my sound, having a beard and “hiding” my face, my weight, my tone and vocal quality (that can’t be controlled), so anytime I experience criticism from someone from the internet it triggers me because I don’t trust anyone who criticizes me on the internet to really have my best interest at heart. Just like most people I met in opera. So, as a defense mechanism I take criticism really badly and get emotional upfront. I can admit that. We’re all navigating something. Fear of failure, fear of not being accepted. Unsocilited criticism is my issue. I’m sure I’ll get better at it.

Reading Plays : A Legacy It's World Book Day. I have to be honest, when I started out in Theatre in my late teens all I wanted to do was be on stage under the spotlight with an angst to tell every story I could lay my hands on. But then I discovered the elegance of just reading plays! Broadly theatre has only two elements - Content and Form. As we start out in our journey of theatre making we are all really drawn in by the form. It's only fair - considering most of us discovered this form by watching theatre 15 years ago. I was lucky enough to meet and interact with theatre makers who would reinforce the importance of content. Through my formative (still going) years all I would read were playscripts. Any Play I could lay my hands on and I would sit for hours reading, analyzing, doodling the design and intepreting the subtext against the dialogue, visualizing the character in front of a mirror. I collected so many playscripts I remember finding it hard to keep track of how many were borrowed out by fellow theatre buddies and how many were intact in my compact studio. Unfortunately, I lost some treasured books in the 2015 floods. Every play I read shaped my ideals, thoughts, imagination and my decisions. Now, there is a trend of new work being created. Shorter sassier performances are the norm replacing the 3 act play structure. There is much to be excited about creating original content for the stage. But if your foundational years of theatre making aren't grounded in exposing yourself to as many plays as possible, I fear that the growth of the artiste will be stunted. By all means, let's welcome the new, the bold, the relevant - but let's never forget to create the new after informing ourselves of what came before us. Good thing is it's never too late to start reading plays. Access to playscripts is still a huge issue and young practitioners of the craft struggle to lay their hands on good content. It is even more severe for children who do not have access to plays relevant to their learning. For our schools it was easier to just write a new play customized to the school's needs as compared to finding something that would be the right fit. This lead to a creation of over 3000 published playscripts over the last 12 years tailor made for the Indian classroom and easily accessible through our app in audio, video & ebook format. It makes sound business sense as well, as a book of plays can travel to places our artistes cannot. Speak to students in a way that we as teachers won't be able to. It won't be too shabby that our content outlasts us carving out our legacy! I think if we as a community read more plays we would actually know how to talk to each other, and more importantly, how to listen to one another. Now that's a legacy that we can all get behind! Happy World Book Day! Hit us up, if you would like a curated set of plays for your kids to read for the summer! And we will throw in a reading list of plays for you too!
