What is your personal hedgehog? For each of us, there is one thing that we are better at than anybody else in the world — it's being our authentic self. You can find your personal Hedgehog by making three separate assessments: 1. Understanding what you are truly passionate about. 2. Identifying what you do better than anyone else. 3. Determine where you are good at generating revenue. (Collins calls this "understanding your economic engine.") The important thing is your gifting MUST be solving a problem better than any one else.

My takes from chapters 5 and 6 of "Good to Great": The Hedgehog Concept & Culture of Discipline Transcend Competence: Focus not just on what you're good at, but on what you can be the best in the world at (what you can potentially do better than other companies). Hedgehog vs. Fox: Simplify complexity into a single, organizing idea. Hedgehogs succeed with one effective strategy, while foxes fail with many. Three Circles of Greatness: Identify what you can be the best at, what drives your economic engine, and what you are deeply passionate about. The intersection forms your Hedgehog Concept. Discipline Equals Freedom: Build a culture where disciplined people take disciplined actions within a framework of freedom and responsibility. Self-Disciplined Teams: Hire self-disciplined individuals who operate effectively with autonomy, fostering a culture of responsibility and continuous improvement. Consistency is Key: Adhere to your Hedgehog Concept consistently, even if it means saying no to attractive opportunities that don’t align. Have a 'not to do' list with your 'to do' list: Once you know the right thing, do you have the discipline to do the right thing and, equally important, to stop doing the wrong things?
