Hiring in 2024. I recently came across a job posting for XYZ role at ABC company on LinkedIn, which received over 100 applications in just 1 hour. It made me wonder how many highly qualified candidates are being overlooked in today's broken job market. With 3 internal recruiters working on dozens of open positions, each with over 100 applications, it can be overwhelming to navigate the hiring process for both sides of the coin. With every conversation I get closer to a written fully executed job offer. I’ll say this, if a company in another country can interview me with two of the founding C level members, assign me a technical, and verbally signal a positive commitment within ONE WEEK, your company can likely tighten up. Its a very common thing in tech to switch companies every 2 years. At what point should hiring managers or recruiters be concerned? In the past 6 months we had a client who gave us 7 openings in IT. We submitted 11 candidates and filled 6 of the 7 positions. If you've hired with an external firm, you know this is rare efficiency which is appreciated by managers as we aren't wasting their time. When we worked on those 7 openings, the client was very relational, took time to walk us through the specifics of the role, and we felt we had a great rapport with them. They recently gave us a new opening but said we could not speak to the manager and have been relatively unresponsive. The role is still open a month later and we don't know what we are looking for. This is the short version of the story, but to summarize, hiring is much better when you treat your vendors and candidates like people. Also, why change what was working?
