Reflecting on my journey after resigning from my previous position, I applied to nearly 300 job opportunities. For each application, I meticulously tailored my resume to match the job description. Despite my efforts, I didn't secure any of those positions. However, what followed was unexpected yet incredibly rewarding. I was offered a job I hadn't even applied for, and within just two days, I received seven job offers from various companies. The lesson here is profound: when you diligently hone your skills and expertise, you reach a point where you don't have to chase after the job you want. Instead, opportunities come knocking at your door. I'm grateful for this experience, as it reaffirms the importance of continuous self-improvement and the value of perseverance in one's career journey. Here's to embracing the unexpected and seizing every opportunity that comes our way.

Consultant and Interim - Leadership, Finance, HR and Infrastructure Projects and Non Executive Director & Chair
Construction & Built Environment Roles I so often hear about my colleagues in colleges really struggling to recruit Construction staff; particularly in Brick, Electric and Plumbing trades that in turn adversely affects student outcomes and ultimately leads to a loss of funding. This feels so avoidable, having seen the data of successful Construction placements successively running through the Dovetail & Slate system (all day, and every day), and having seen first-hand the scale of human and IT resources they have available, and the quality of the candidate database. This team are expert at this; the founders were all trained at a well-known specialist Construction recruitment company and are determined to bring FE the outcomes they were trained to secure, but at an appropriate service and price point to FE. Using a Recruitment company is absolutely no guarantee of a successful outcome, but a reluctance or even refusal to explore a 'no win, no fee' proven solution seems like a false economy and a 'plan to fail' doesn't it? If you haven't tried the team at Dovetail, then I commend them to you. If you have, and haven't enjoyed the experience then DM me and tell me why and I will see what else we can do to support you! #guywalker #harveyelliot #chrisboden #charliesnell
My Proudest Placement to date! 🙌 Sometimes it's easy to forget the impact we have on people's lives when we only speak over the phone, so it was refreshing to hear how thankful Sobia was when offered this role 😄 Lot's of credit to the College too, who were accommodating throughout and made the process incredibly smooth! This is the biggest time waster 👇🏽 ❌ taking advantage of every career opportunity without considering whether it aligns with your values ❌ Whilst definitely I believe it’s important to explore new opportunities and remain open to possibilities 😍, doing so in a way that aligns with your core values is far more likely to save you time and help you achieve your career goals faster 💯 ❤️ value based decision making ❤️ involves making career choices that are in line with what’s most important to you For example 👉🏽 imagine you have a deep passion for the environment and you had a a core value of ‘eco-friendliness’ - if considering any career opportunities 👇🏽 you might prioritise opportunities that are committed to ethical practices, for example When our career decisions are guided by our values, we are more likely to feel a personal connection to our work which leads to greater fulfillment - super powerful! 🔥 Empowering side note 👉🏽 our values can evolve over time as we as humans are always changing, and so it’s always great to stay aware of these changes and adjust your career path accordingly Being clear on your values makes it easier to know which opportunities to pursue and which to gracefully pass on Even if we are exploring new career possibilities (how exciting 😍), doing so with intention ensures you are always moving forward in a meaningful way 💯 Time is our most valuable asset ⏰ And if we move forward without first evaluating whether the opportunity aligns with your authentic vision for making a positive impact in the world, others and your community 👇🏽 We risk wasting time and are more likely to feel resentful 😔 The key to avoiding one of the biggest time wasters in your career is to make decisions based your unique core values This approach not only saves time but also leads to a more fulfilling and successful career

2023: 3 of my closest friends, among the brightest and most diligent people I know, made the bold decision to leave their jobs without having another lined up. At the time, my practical side struggled to grasp why anyone would take such a step without the safety of a fallback plan. Though I respected their choices, part of me worried about the impulsiveness of their decisions. 2024: My perspective has shifted. I now understand why it was necessary. My friends, myself, and even ex-colleagues have reached a turning point, driven by unsustainable workload, unproductive drumbeats, dwindling resources and limited collaboration, only to be exacerbated by leadership out of touch with our daily realities (disclaimer: in general). These circumstances (in general) make it clear: the decision to leave is not only rational but essential for personal and professional well-being. As I look back starting from internship days till now, my time at P&G university has been a journey of immense growth. I’ve learned more acronyms than I ever anticipated. Jokes aside, I’m deeply grateful for the experience, and the people who were willing to make it work within this structured organization. I apologize that this news came as a surprise to some of you, and I sincerely appreciate the candid responses from those who have reached out. It’s now time to start the job hunt proper!
