These yellow footprints are famous in the United States Marine Corps as the first step in the journey to becoming a Marine. In civilian speak it's the first step in the onboarding process. Once a person steps on these footprints a transformation begins. If you've ever met a Marine in their dress blue uniforms you understand how profound is that transformation. When you consider your own onboarding process: How profound a transformation does it ignite within you new employee toward becoming part of the team? Does your onboarding process convey and train the new employee of the values of the organization? Are expected behaviors clear, modeled, and understood by all? How organized is your onboarding process? Is it clear on what a "great first day" each new employee will experience? How about the first week? What are the expectations for the new employee at 30-60-90 days? Do you have benchmarks and clarity on expectations? Is your entire team ready to support the new employee to become part of the team? I talk with many CEOs and leaders and there is often some level of dissatisfaction on the competence, dedication and enthusiasm of their employee.
